What's your top 3 weapons you would have for a zombie apocalypse?

I would use some kind of rifle chambered in .22LR for hunting small game (like hell anyone here would actually be fighting the zombies) because ammunition is plentiful. Some form of knife, again, mainly used with hunting in mind and some form of pistol to fight the zombies if I really have to, any pistol will do so long as it isn't something ridiculous like a Desert Eagle. I'd run from the zombies like a little bitch until the military deals with the problem.

Just a little question: katanas seem to be popular in this thread, any reason why you guys like it so much? Just curious.

Crossbow, no sharp tips, certain types of crossbows shoot the bolt so fast that the bolt breaks upon impact, strangely enough, removing the tip of a crossbow bolt gives you a greater chance of retrieving the bolt without any damage, yet it is still extremely lethal against zombies and humans.

Ka-bar Swabbie, these buggers literally cut through someone's head with one simple swing, not to mention they're a great tool for hunting, I love this beast, though it would've been better if it were a little smaller just for hunting purposes.

HK USP 45 , out of all the handguns I've tried, this one just felt right for me. Definitely want to keep this by my side for encounters with humans.

1. 9 mm pistol with silencer

2. Bow and arrows

3. A light shield with spikes on it.

4. If one is not possible, a sword or crowbar--whichever can be most easily accessed when I'm gathering resources.

Reasoning for each below. I tried to keep this as realistic as possible

My primary ranged weapon is definitely the pistol. For long range, I'd like a good sniper, but snipers aren't quiet and we know that loud noises in a zombie apocalypse would be bad. So I'll have to settle for a silenced pistol. Besides, in support of a pistol, if the zombie is far enough from me that a good shot would require a scope, then the zombie is too far away to really be a threat.

My secondary weapon would be my bow. It would also be a primary short range weapon (maybe less than 30 yards) because it's even quieter than the pistol but can still pack a punch. I'd say a crossbow would be just as good, but I tend to think a traditional compound bow would be faster to draw and shoot while only having marginally less stopping power than the crossbow.

My final weapon is also a kind of defense, and it's my shield. It needs to be light in case I need my other hand. And I'll weld spikes to it so it's also effective as a melee weapon. My hope would never to be in a spot where I need to use it for melee, though. But if combat would be too short range for even the bow, I could bash a zombie with a spike shield. It would also serve as my weapon in case I run out of bullets or arrows, but I would hope to not find myself in that situation.

Now if we can use fantasy weapons

1. Masamune - a legendary katana without peer.

2. Maggie (Borderlands 2) - because Monty's wife don't take no guff

3. Kamehameha wave - because...Goku!

Might be because of the walking dead series and it might also be because of anime. If you are skilled with a katana you are lucky.

-Machete: it's not a heavy duty hacking/cleaving weapon like an axe. It's far more lightweight and allows for more maneuverability.

-Simple Crossbow: arrows, unlike bullets, are easily handmade (as evidenced by humanities' early ancestors), if society goes down, the best way to live is like our early ancestors did: non-firearm weaponry. Firearms require bullets, which also means those firearms can run out of bullets. You can run out of arrows, too, but an arrow shaft is a lot easier to dig out of a zombie's skull than a bullet.

-Flamethrower. Can't remember if zombies hate fire or not, but I think they do. Plus, flamethrowers are fun (even if they're not practical in the long run).

But if you're not skilled with a katana you can always use a machete. Quite the effective weapon if I do say so myself.

Also, if you aren't skilled with a katana you might end up breaking it. So machetes are much more efficient, also one thing that should be mentioned when it comes to melee weapons. You should wear some type of protective suit, especially protecting the eyes. Since when it comes to using any melee weapon especially one that will completely smash a zombies head you can expect to get dirty. It seems that infection if considered that it can spread with a bite that it should also be able to spread through eyes and mouth so protection is important. Also gloves since cuts should be enough to get infected.

1. Katana: A relatively light, easy and effective sword it is an ideal close range weapon and this one lady whose name I can't remember right now has kicked quite a bit of zombie ass with it in the Walking Dead.

2. Hunting Knife: Another good close range weapon that can also double as a tool and a hunting weapon.

3. Crossbow: A relatively easy to use long range weapon where you can reuse the ammo and easily create more arrows to use should you run out. And it dosen't make as much noise as guns do which would attract a lot less attention from zombies.

Michonne is her name.

Also, regarding crossbows I think it's a good idea to choose one that doesn't have too much power I've seen videos of Daryl's bow and that crossbow might just have too much punch since the arrow would go through and then further based on a video I saw. So you'd need a lot of arrows for one as powerful as his but I'd say that a compound bow would be good.

They're pretty badass looking, I've been thinking about getting one, though I think it's better to buy a normal bow first to train I tried out a bow once and I was okay with it so it's good.

I would procure an arsenal of:

My Colt CM 901, an adaptable weapon with 16", 14" and 11" CQB, that can fire 5.56 and 7.62, with a Trijicon optical gun sight with a docter reflex sight, Magpul or Daniel Defense iron sights, with an M7 Bayonet for CQB.

My Sig Sauer P226, also adaptable, it can fire 9mm parabellum, .357 magnum, and .40 calibre.

My tomahawk, versatile as a weapon and a tool, and is an good offensive weapon.

Some sort of metal pole. Something sturdy enough to swing around without getting bent up too easily. Something preferably kinda long though in case I need to keep them at arm's length. Maybe saw a point onto it for stabbystabbytiemz. Unlike what most games and movies might tell you durability is far more important than whether it can slice them up or not.

Also depends on what kinds of zombies we'd be talking about. Just flesh ones? Or are we including skeletons which are essentially the same thing? Is it infectious or black magic? Does it kill or only enrage people? Can it be fixed without the need to kill 99% of the human population?

Too many questions but I'd go with something durable any day.

My first weapon would probably be a boomerang, it has a sharp edge and can be used as a sort of knife in close range, and it can also be thrown and if done correctly without hitting anything, will come back.

The second weapon would probably be some sort of staff, while it might not kill things as efficiently as a sword or gun, I know how to use one much better than a sword, and it is quieter than a gun.

The third weapon would be a bucket of meat, less of a weapon and more for distracting zombies should I get trapped or need to get somewhere that they are in my way. And if need be explosives or poison could be added to said bucket of meat.

Mace...or other spiked bludgeons....

military shovel/pick/axe (I have one, yes they exist)

VZ-58 or AK-47 (assuming there is ammunition readily available, would choose AK for the abundance of parts)

But honestly, I'd probably commit suicide if that were to every occur....It's just like how I feel about a nuclear war....I probably won't survive, but if I do, I will suffer a slow, agonizing death...

So, instead of try to survive, I'd like a front row seat (especially if Yellowstone blows in my time)...

  1. Shotgun
  2. knife
  3. small pistol

It wouldn't be a zombie apocalypse without shotguns. The pistol is for close range and the knife is when the zombies are to close. I don't know the names of weapons like most people around here do, so I am keeping it simple.

The katana being light is a common misconception, it is very blade-heavy. It is also a poorly balanced and rather awkward sword due to it having a small blade you'd normally find on a one handed sword but a grip that requires two hands.
