My unattainable, not-so-secret-desire.

Ponies, im going to share with you the one thing i would love to do in my life, but i really don't think its possible.

Iv'e been thinking a little lately about the future and what i wish to do. As my thought process progressed it veered off in a different direction like it usually does. I somehow got onto the subject of older professions like weaving or butchering (Which we actually still have) or.........Blacksmithing.

Thats it. Thats what i want. I want to be a Blacksmith. Working over a hot forge, pounding metal into the desired outcome. Working long days, working hard. I don't know why, but everything a blacksmith has to offer appeals to me. And i realize that being a blacksmith, the most common thing i would make would be horseshoes, not like swords and shields and stuff (But that may happen if this was possible :D)

One of the weirdest things i think about my want to be a blacksmith is the fact i like thinking and figuring stuff out and this takes nearly none. But obviously this profession doesn't exist in a practical way anymore, so alas, i will never live my dream :( Whatever, dreaming is dreaming.

Go for it! Man, you have the chance to do something to make a dream come true with a simple occupation! There's people out there who say they want to do insane things to have their dreams come true. I would go forth to it as a hobby though, because a full on career could be regrettable. Your choice though!

And on your whole idea, many of the smartest people in the world are manual labourers by choice. I guess it just helps them relax and think huh?

And we can't all be captains of industry, sometimes less is more. And its not quite the same anyway.

Black smithing is actually used for making bed parts and other types of goods people use often, maybe even always. The things you want to make are actual styles people use, for example my bed is made of something that was made by a black smith(I know, it is my style).

So, just because black smithing is not a popular job doesn't mean it isn't used any more.

That'd be sweet! If you can find the time and money to get it started, go for it! Even if it is just a side hobby, you cab make things for yourself or friends/family.

And tell me when you can make me some Daedric armor, could always use a set.

Limiting your dreams will only stop your progress

Besides, in few decades any local, one-man blacksmith will be obsolete. Nobody want to stuck as an outdated labour-smith right?

Blacksmithing, from what I've heard, takes quite a bit of skill and thinking. I don't think the profession is that unrealistic. There still are blacksmiths in historic reenactment places. Maybe you could try getting a job there. I think It takes quite a bit of training to become one, though.

Well here's the thing. Even though you most likely cant do that for a living (Although I've seen real life blacksmiths who make horseshoes in rural places) that doesn't mean you cant do it at all. It can be a hobbie.

I would actually want to be a blacksmith if I was back at the time period.

Follow your dreams, but ALWAYS have a backup plan. I have several!

Go for it as a hobby if you'd like! It sounds fun.

Would probably take quite a bit of initial investment, though, so make sure you're really up for it.

Just keep smithing iron daggers and you'll eventually get there.

No but on the serious side lol, blacksmithing is out there. I'd say you'd be interested in construction and that sort of thing right? I think of that as the "modern blacksmith". I mean, there are guys out there who handcraft special kinds of tools and things, just not with a hammer and flint.

It's been a similar goal of mine as well, and I have a friend that I plan on commissioning to build me a forge in my very own back yard, He's a three year long apprentice and is quite good at his craftsmanship with Damascus weapons, and plates of armor.

He even fixed up my Rosewood Sabre, It just needs to be re-balanced. I plan on getting into Gunsmithing as a side hobby, but wouldn't mind making a few blades of my own. I say pursue a god honest, pure, and honorable profession.

Have a backup plan, but this isn't unachievable! If it doesn't work you'll have something to fall back on and it can still be a hobby!
