New Season 5 Trailer

This trailer has me so hyped! As has been already mentioned, the animation looks great! More than that though, the entire trailer implies so much about what the episode and possibly the entire season will be like! To illustrate exactly what I mean, I'll leave you with a video where I explain my thoughts:

After watching the Season 5 trailer a few times, I've noticed something about the cutie mark problem. I'm going to put the trailer here just so referencing is easier.

At 0:37, 0:47 and 1:04, you see a pink unicorn with a green and purple mane. Around 0:37 and 1:04 in particular, you can see a staff, which I presume it's this unicorn's weapon. The main reason I consider her staff a weapon is A. How she's portrayed and B. The ponies with the equal sign cutie marks.

With the former theory, you notice that all scenes featuring her give off a vibe that's she's the antagonist of Season 5. 0:47 shows that she's the only one in the scene who's smile isn't forced, while 1:04 shows her and the equal ponies seemingly ganging up on the Mane 6. What I find most interesting though is around 0:37, it shows her and the Mane 6 what it seems to be a collection of cutie marks, which brings me to the other theory.

The staff's purpose is to steal cutie marks and make ponies become a slave of the user. As I mentioned earlier, 1:04 features the equal ponies ganging up the Mane 6, but what I also find interesting is Twilight's "It's a trap!" (funny reference, by the way xP). It seems that the equal ponies are even brainwashed because of what Twi said. Also, I assume that the pink unicorn was trying to threaten the Mane 6 by taking their cutie marks away.

One more thing I think would happen is the more cutie marks, the more powerful the pink unicorn and/or her staff will be. It sounds odd, but it's something that is pretty in line with MLP:FiM. Not to mention the collection of cutie marks.

Let me know what you think about this theory!

So it looks like this premiere will focus more on the nature of cutie marks. Turning all their cutie marks equal making them think they have no purpose other than to be equally slaves to the pony.

As quoted earlier, she could also be an ally to the mane six. Perhaps she starts as an ally only for it to turn out to be a trick as Twilight stated, "It's a trap!"

Thanks for speaking about the giant misunderstanding about communism.

I actually thought the same when you spoke about Star Trek and i rewatched Return of the archons and the people on this planet also looked so creepily happy. What i really liked was Kirks line that he said to Landrew. He said: "Without freedom of choice, there is no creativity and without creativity there is no life."

I hope something like this will be adressed, because this can easily become the best season premiere of the series.

I watched the trailer a day or two ago. I was pretty hyped.

Now, after looking through these analyses, I'm really hyped. The whole equality vs freedom of choice issue is something I'm studying in philosophy right now. The problem with a society where everyone is equal is that those who are advantaged or talented in some way are unable to make use of that. The problem with a free society is that not everyone is equal. It's unfair.

Most people agree that an unequal society is still fair, as long as positions of power can be acquired by anyone. Also, as long as inequality benefits everyone—such as in the case of Bill Gates creating MS and giving us the PC, or Princess Celestia being uber-powerful and raising the sun—it's okay. Most people agree that it's not easy to maintain equality, so everyone should start from an equal position at birth, and be able to work to benefit themselves from there.

The problem is for the generation that follows. For instance, the offspring of Celestia (if she has them) would be advantaged compared to someone born on a rock farm like Pinkie. If not everyone is equal, then redistribution of wealth is required to make the following generation equal. This redistribution is unfair, even though it is intended to correct unfairness. Either way, a problem still exists.

It'd be very, very interesting if some of these ideas are applied to the world of MLP. I'd love to see the writers try to tackle some of these ideas.

So the premiere villain is a pink unicorn, huh. I was kinda hoping for something, you know, a bit more interesting. We'll see how this turns out.

Hey, maybe she isn't the villain ;) (I hope so...) Edited by Blobulle

They're hyping the crap out of this season. This could be the last season, so that's probably why. The only thing that I disliked was that there is still no date for the season premiere. I'm guessing it's either March 21 or 28. In any regard, really looking forward to the new season. It looks as if they're going to attempt another season-long story arc. Hopefully, it'll be better than last season. Last season it seemed as if the writers wanted to write a horizontal narrative for the Equestria Games and key stories, but Hasbro wouldn't let them. (My guess is because Hasbro feared it would confuse viewers.) Maybe this season will be different.

What if the ponies chose to give up their cutie marks?  Maybe that unicorn pony is like a cult leader.  She isn't forcing anyone to do anything, she's just really good at convincing them to do it. I doubt it though, more than likely it's a black and white case of villain-itis.

Season 5, where the Mane 6 travel the world to tell others that their way of life is wrong and must reform. There is no me in Friendship. All hail Princess Twilight Sparkle.

There is an old saying that says "less is more." Why do we always need a gigantic monster to defeat in every season? Why can't it be someone, that looks like an everyday guy (or in this case pony?)

Look at the villain from Terminator 2 for example. James Cameron could have easily gone for a Dolph Lundgren Musclepacked cyborg, but instead he took Robert Patrick for the T-1000, a man who dosen't look threatning on the outside, but he has become one of the most menacing movie villains in history.

You can criticize her after the episode for all i care, but for now, keep the doom paul flags in your pocket.

I am really excited for Season 5. The trailer looks like the first 2 episodes are going to have an action packed adventure plot. Even if people say its gonna suck, ((Or its poorly made)) they don't know that QUITE yet. ;) I'm can't wait to watch MLP, its almost time until it gets released!

This trailer looks quite interesting to be honest.

The way it is framed seems to suggest a theme of world building and fantasy adventure this season.

With this and the mini character trailers for season 5 I hope that this season will be more adventurous based than previous seasons have been.  This looks different and I have to say that it has me hooked and I can't wait to see what the season has in store.

About that possible new main villain I have a feeling that she is enslaving the residents of the town with the scepter and absorbing their magic of their cutie marks to gain control for some grand plan or scheme of some sort.  I wouldn't be surprised if it was more of her being a ruthless, deceptive dictator controlling a totalitarianism government.  With the whole tree of harmony, equal sign cutie marks, cutie marks shown to be taken away possibly by the scepter, and the whole cutie mark magic toyline the season premiere 2 part episodes will be about the magic of cutie marks.  Maybe the entire season could be about that for all I know.  I am intrigued and can't wait to see more and hopefully the trailer at ponycon on monday will be a new one with more information.

In a addition to them all having the equal sign cutie mark, I also noticed that all the stallions and mares have the same mane and tail style. They have different colors, but they all seem pretty grey and their smiles seem forced. I'm sensing a theme of people getting too caught up in being part of a political movement and losing their individuality.

I'm excited!

It's a real shame they have to leave Spike out AGAIN. I mean does he have no reason to go?

Sigh

I guess the writers just couldn't put him in aside from the tree house scene.

These adventures are cluttered enough with six characters. I'm sure Spike will get to shine later

Awesome, this looks great! Perhaps will be the best intro to a new Season yet!

Sorry, but i have to facepalm everytime someone mentions communism here, because this is not communism. Believe it or not, communism actually profits from the individuality of other people.

What is displayed here, is a conformity state.

Yeah, I'm also annoyed at people exclaiming "communist ponies!", because conformists exist in all societies, capitalist or socialist, traditional or modern, etc. Theres a famous song about american conservative culture in the 50s/60s and conformity.

Japanese proverb- "the nail that sticks out gets hammered in"

If a rich boy and a poor boy can go to the same college, without having to pay the same amount of money, that's communism.

Thats not really true.

Well looks like the Mane 6 finally got the memo that random crowds bursting into song are more than just a little odd.

The format is definitely new, perhaps due to Discovery taking over the Hub. It feels more like a drama action movie opener, like The Hobbit or Spiderman. Even for a season opener, it lacks the fun and laughs you might expect for a kids audience in past. The kid appeal is still there, but its markedly more subtle. This is definitely geared towards a more mature and seasoned audience.

I wonder who the man's voice may be. Inb4StarSwirled. The writing has definitely begun to caught on with the animation, if not more.

Hopefully this season tops my expectations, because its looking bright so far.

I noticed in the trailer there's this pony shown who looks like a villain we saw in Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks, also rewatched the trailers for Rarity and Rainbow Dash and these are shown at some point, has me pretty interested!!

I also want to mention some other things. In a blink-and-you'll-miss it moment around 1:05, you can see the pink unicorn with a smug look on her face. It's probably another reason why she'll be this Season's villain, but we'll see. Around 0:37, you can see Twilight's and Fluttershy's ears lowered, which gives off a vibe of threat. And since Hasbro is promoting Cutie Mark Magic lately, I got a good idea on where this is going.
