Worst lines of dialogue in the show.

Welcome to what is known as the pronoun game, it is used to cause unuseful drama when the character really just could say exactly who/what they are referring to instead of he, she, or it.

Indeed. Every time I watch it, I just imagine how it could've been done better. Like a cold open of the Crystal Empire actually returning to existence and then cut to the main theme. That would convey the right kind of drama that the dialogue couldn't because we actually see it happen instead of cryptically hearing about it happening.

So basically when ever the show is incredibly unsubtle or uses clunky exposition is when the dialogue is at the worst. Especially when logic is thrown out the window (as in FPK Twilight should have and could have easily teleported across instead)

I remember in "one bad apple" (IMO one of the worst/most offensive episodes ever) when Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon do that rhyme and push their arses/butts against each other (celestia that sounds wrong) the lyrics for it sound like they're saying "clop clop sugerlumb clop", just makes me cringe.

I cringe at most of Applejack's southern-isms, you know, when she says some folksy saying nobody says in real life. I love that girls accent and the way she talks but she needs to lay off some of those sayings.

I'm surprised at how many people mentioned "It needs to be 20% cooler". I thought it was a great line!

And of course it becomes boring if it's overused. :/ Just like every other line.

Honestly the only reason I can think of why everyone hates "It needs to be about 20% cooler" is because of it's memetic status rather than the line itself.

 

As far actual cringeworthy dialogue, the only one that really comes up was Twilight's guilt tripping of Rainbow Dash in Rainbow Falls. Anything that comes out of Rarihick's mouth in Simple Ways is a real close second though

First, it doesn't sound like something Twilight would say in this situation; she's far from a blind optimist, and how would she know if everything was going to be fine with her coronation or not? Second, it's corny and not delivered convincingly. Third, Twilight says it straight to the audience, blasting a hole in the fourth wall that would make Pinkie Pie jealous. And it seems to have been intended for a specific section of the audience: namely us, which just bugs me more. Fourth, it was unnecessary; things almost always turn out fine on MLP.

Anything that Diamond Tiara says. ESPECIALLY in Flight to The Finish. It sounds like, and is perhaps meant to emulate, making fun of the handicapped which, as a paraplegic, drives me freaking berserk! In fact, Flight to The Finish is the episode that officially made Diamond Tiara irredeemable to me.

Although I agree that line of dialogue was bad (though to be fair the whole episode was bad) I'd like to point out that MAYBE it was intended as an ironic line intended to hint at the events of the next season.

Moments ago, Rainbow Dash helped rescue Soarin', and the audience watched it all unfold. The audience isn't stupid; you don't need to reiterate the event.

 

From Trade Ya!:

Rarity: So, where is this valuable vintage item you want to trade everything we have for?

 

Applejack: There!

 

Rarity: Where?

 

Applejack: Right there!

 

Rarity: But... that's a dented old pie tin.

 

Applejack: A dented vintage pie tin. The metal they used to fashion this one helps cook the pies up to five seconds faster! They don't make 'em like this anymore!

The exposition in the prologue sucked, but it gets worse and worse. Applejack is supposedly utilitarian. Why does she need to trade plenty just for a rusty pie plate that won't do anything to genuinely help him?

And Trixie's emphasis on the word great when she talks about herself makes her sound like the Frosted Flakes tiger. I like Trixie, I really do but Grrrreat, does get on my nerves sometimes.
