Chat is Dead

As a matter of fact, we identified this to be an issue with the chatroom. It created a feeling of exclusivity - there seems to be a clique of "chat regulars" who retreat into /chat/ and are a bit unaccepting of new members. I have even talked to someone who more or less left the site because they felt completely alienated in the chatroom.

 

It leaves a bad taste in new members' mouths, and drives some of them away. Already, we're seeing an improvement in member retention rates since I changed the minimum post requirement to 40 posts. With the complete removal of the chatroom, we're bound to see more people sticking around and posting in the public forums now.

 

Something else that I hated. In fact, I do get the feeling that some have forgotten me...I think I was little bit more known and cared for before two things happened.

 

1. The chat.

 

2. My computer broke. So I had to stay away from the forum for two weeks.

 

I'm pretty sure I'll always be the person everyone forgot about. Its kinda sad really...

To those of you who think you have "nothing to do" on MLP Forums, I just hope you realize that we are a sprawling website with over 10,000 discussion threads, an active roleplaying community, two game servers, and a deviantART group. There is still loads to do, if only you venture out into the rest of the site.

 

I'm not saying that there's nothing to do here, nor am I saying that you're wrong for deleting the chat, but...

 

1) I'm not a big fan of roleplaying

2) I only play one of the games that you have a server for (and from my first visit about an hour ago, it was almost empty...)

3) I don't do anything creative enough to ever have a deviantart profile

 

And since I'm an awkward fuck, I'm not very good with voice chatting (via Skype) OR starting any sort of conversation (being in the chat, with 20+ other people made me feel a bit more comfortable)... so yeah, I'm kinda in a predicament right now :/

 

I still like the threads though, don't get me wrong there. And again, I respect the mod's position on the issue, and I won't complain, but this is just how I feel right now

 

If so, then newfriends like me will never EVER fit in here. I juess I'll just remain as nothing but a newfriend forevermore.

Couple things about this...

 

1: 'Fame' on a forum is overrated and pointless.

 

2: If someone is to become 'famous' on a forum, it should be through the contributions they make to the forum, not for being in a chat room a lot.

You've been around since the dawn of time, bro. My memory, at least, isn't that bad that I forget about people almost instantly. Heck, there are people that haven't been around in months that I fondly recall to this day.

In the end, this thread made me sad. Not because the chat is dead, but because of what I see now.

I use to be somebody. Not famous, but at least known. Now, I"m barely known anymore. I do feel a slight envy know and then, usually no matter what the famous people say, they get brohoofs. But me, my posts get ignored.

 

Maybe it was the chat's fault. Maybe it was my fault...

Meh. I won't miss chat. While I did enjoy talking to some of you, oftentimes it was just sillyness that had nothing to do with ponies. Also, it was glitchy and my scroll bar would go out of control not allowing me to see everything that happened. And that doorbell drove me crazy so first thing I learned to do was mute it.

I hardly ever use chat simply for the reason that it had no organization what so ever, you can never talk about one topic, etc. I basically disregarded this part of the forum for that very reason. SynchTube is a much better option for chats of this nature because you are for the most part talking about one specific thing. In fact, the only reason I clicked on chat was because I saw statuses on it. Sorry to be blunt, but I feel very strongly about this.
