spoiler Who's the seventh legend's counterpart?

So each of the Mane Six has a counterpart with a pillar, but it's kinda confusing to know who Stygian is the legend counterpart of. Right now it's aiming more towards Starlight, but he could be Sunburst's, or Spike's.

He could be Starlight's because he's a had a task of bringing friendship together but he felt he was left behind, just like how Starlight wanted be friends with Sunburst forever, but he accomplished something and moved on. He could be Sunburst because of his curiosity of magic, but he wasn't that strong. He could also be Spike's because he helped the Pillars achieved victory only to be the unsung hero who's barely recognized, only difference is Spike didn't mind it but Stygian did.

However, like I said Stygian seems to be leaning more towards Starlight, and Spike's legend would probably be Scorpan. But anything goes at this point! What do you think? Who is Stygian the legend of? Could be all 3 of them perhaps! Could be Chief Thunderhooves for all we know! XD

I would definitely say Starlight. They are both ex-villains who are valuable to the team. They do not have to act the same to be like their counterpart. Other than Rainbow Dash and Flash Magnus, do any of the elements act the same as the pillars?

I would have to go with Starlight as the whole villain reformed parallels was really apparent between the two of them in the episode.

Starlight. Stygian's backstory parallels hers, both in theme and outcome, and she's the only one who relates to him beyond the surface.

Spike, because "underappreciated sidekick with a dark side" -- e.g.: Greed!Spike (Secret Of My Excess); Stygian-as-The Pony Of Shadows (Shadow Play).

I think he doesn't have and doesn't need a counterpart among the main cast.

Starlight does have similar traits to Stygian (mainly bad decisions in the past) but they also have different roles inside their respective groups.

Stygian's role was that of a strategist, he researched the dangers the pillars faced and formed plans for them to help old Equestria. From a sports metaphor, Stygian was the team's coach while Starswirl was the team's captain, he was the leader outside of battle.

Starlight's role is that of an outsourcing consultant, she listens and externs her ideas during counsel but hardly takes any decision for the team. She also has top level magic, so she is a huge asset in battle.

To me the differences outclasses the similarities of these two and I can't see how they could be 'couterparts'.

Like I stated in another topic, I think Spike does the most.

Stingian was never recognized as a fellow pillar, as his role was less direct, he went to the dark side, and lacks, but I don't see why he shouldn't be a sixth ranger later as a pillar. If that happens, I think his counterpart would be Starlight, as they have a dark past in common, and she suggested the possibility of reforming him

I'm in the Stygian = Starlight Glimmer camp. Seems the path of least resistance where I don't have to do as many mental gymnastics to connect another character. As I said in the episode thread, I don't look for personality traits to connect the Pillars with their modern day counterparts, and I can add one's role within the team to that nicely. 

But symmetry isn't absolutely needed either way.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. His position character matches those of both Spike and Starlight, so it's hard to choose between the two of who Stygian is more like. Some say Starlight (like you), some say Spike. Only season 8 will tell us for sure, and if he's the legend of one of them, who's the other's legend?

He’s clearly Starlight. They both acted as both enemies and friends. Starlight’s role in part II makes it pretty clear.

I'm going to have to say Starlight given that Stygian went down a dark path like she did and used magic in a bid to obtain power--I would have said Sunset but she doesn't exactly fit into the equation--even though she did so for revenge.

He's both Starlight and Sunburst counterpart, Starlight in that well he falls to darkness due to his bitterness over his perceived loss of his friends, Sunburst in that he's a genius scholar who isn't actually very good at magic himself.

No there are others, and some part of me thinks that too, but I'm just aiming for Starlight to avoid disappointment!

At least you have a reason. Do you think we will get to see Stygian as a secondary character, or as a supporting character who shows up only once a season.

Definitely Starlight, given their similarities. Both are redeemed villains who felt left out, though for different reasons. Starlight was a major help with Stygian, and understood him the best.
