Out of curiousity I'm wondering what operating systems all the ponies around here are currently using.

I myself am using Fedora on my computer and the Windows Developer Preview on my netbook.

If you choose other, could you post what the OS is, thanks.

I'm using Windows 7, and although Microsoft OS' allow users way more freedom, I've always wanted to try out Mac OSX and see for myself if it's really as high performance as it's cut out to be.

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best—" and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.

I used to have a Macbook, and OS X is REALLY good. Of course, its a bit more expensive, and there's not as many applications as there are on Windows, but its good nonetheless.

I've got all three of windows newest OS. XP (ok), Vista(ok too), and 7 (best).

I don't use Macs, but I usually use my mom's iPhone.

Besides Linux, there is no other good OS systems besides android for tablets and smartphones.

I use Windows 7 64 Bit exclusively. I even have it on my toaster.

I once tried to install FreeBSD and 24 hours later, I found myself in a lake surrounded by sharks. never doing that again.

Windows 7, a notable improvement over XP, or my specific XP. I disliked my XP to such an extent that I preferred my Windows ME over it. (Nothing against that OS.) In contrast to Macs, Windows appear to have superior performance, options, compatibility, and a large majority of other things. I have no experience and infinitesimal knowledge of other operating systems.

I Run Ubuntu Linux on My Desktop and Netbook :)

Laptop running Windows 7 Professional, and I'm trying to decide on whether to install Linux Mint 12 or Crunchbang Linux on my old desktop.

You should try them both in a virtual machine, i have tried linux mint and like it, best alternative to ubuntu, crunchbang is also very nice as it is lightweight., when you say "Old" how old? how much ram, and what cpu?

Off memory, I think I have a 800 MHz CPU and 512MB of RAM. The computer was made sometime in the very early 2000's.

Vista. As long as it works, which is does, and pretty well enough for my purposes which I might add, I have no concerns about getting the newest or latest gadgets/operating system. I love my computer just as it is.

Mint Should be okay and run fine, Crunchbang however would probbaly be smoother and faster since its meant for older computers,

here is a list of distro's meant for older systems http://distrowatch.com/search.php?category=Old+Computers#distrosearch

that system isnt that bad though, the newest distros are just getting a little heavy for 512MBs i have gotten linux running well on

a 128MB P3 (used puppy linux).
