Alcohol discussion: pick your poison

Gummy

Recommended Posts

Beer: I always dig a good IPA. I've been doing home brew for the past few years, and I find that IPAs offer some of the best flexibility and speed, meaning you can try lots of different recipes in a fairly short amount of time. When it comes to buying it, I enjoy Sam Adams' "Boston Ale" (never was a big fan of the Boston Lager, oddly enough), New Belgium's "Trippel" and "Fat Tire", and Brooklyn Brewery's "Pennant Ale '55".

Vodka: Stolichnaya has been my favorite since my early 20's. Sure, Grey Goose and Ketel One are smoother, but that's just it. Stoli has a unique flavor, and doesn't try to be a completely flavorless vodka like a lot of top shelf brands. Another rather unique vodka I've enjoyed is Rain. It actually reminds me of sake in a way. When mixing vodka, my weapons of choice are Red Bull, OJ or Tabasco Bloody Mary mix.

Scotch: Johnny Walker is a good standby (black label or better...red tastes a little like paint thinner).

Rum: Captain Morgan is ok, but it gets kind of boring after a while. In any case, I don't often drink rum by itself. Most of the rum I drink is as part of a Long Island.

Beer?....Beer?! BEEER?!?! UGH! lol

Screw that, I hate beer! Love scotch (as long as it is not cheap...). I do enjoy Absinthe as well, particularly if it is from The Czech Republic as it should be... I am generally a spirit drinker if I do drink, but it cant be cheap... and usually has to be "on the rocks". Unless its Gin, I will drink that with Tonic or cranberry juice.. otherwise just with ice.

I never tried absinthe. I don't think it's legal in Canada... But I've heard that it really fucks you up big time and that it's a different kind of "drunk" than other alcohols. It looks pretty nasty actually, I'm not sure I'd even want to try it haha

My favorite beer is a tie between normal Budwiser and Budwiser 66 (don't think you have it in the states, it could be budlight??)

I'm not what you'd call a fan of beer or lager. Frankly, they are like drinking horse piss left out in the sun.

I'm more of a wine and bourbon person. Separate, of course. Specifically, as far as wines go, I usually am bending towards Merlot or Moscato. Not a fan of white wine, because I frankly don't like the taste of the grapes used even unfermented.

Now, what makes this information very strange is that I haven't drank a drop of alcohol in my life. Couldn't, as I live in a dry town. However, I know all of the information involved in the fermentation of alcohol and all the specifics involving the ingredients. A little math here, a little science there, and I can approximate with perfect accuracy the texture and taste of an alcoholic beverage made under certain conditions (accounting for all variables, which makes wine infinitely more complex), and can essentually provide my brain with electrical signals that would simulate and approximate the experience of consuming the beverage made according to the variables given (Which become so complex in their nuances that I could spend a book's worth of words writing them all down in a mere list), giving me the experience without drunkeness or the health detriment (However, if I so pleased, I could simply rework the signals to achieve that). Same with drugs and sexual euphoria, both of which I simulated, found incredibly illogical and displeasing, and dismissed permanently.

People, the mind can do a WHOLE lot of things you'd never believe.

I once had a tiny sip of Scotch, and it was the worst tasting thing I have ever had the displeasure to have mah taste buds feel. So yeah, looks like I'm gonna stick with energy drinks

As much as I hate the drinks themselves, they're kinda neat to know and learn about. This guy named AhoyXbox makes the series on YouTube called "Beverage Guide Express" which basically centers around certain brands of alcohol, but he's done a soft drink (Fever Tree Tonic Water), so those are included in the mix. Here, check these 2 vids out

Hey look, apple cider :D!

Yeah, it is pretty intense lol Very* high alcohol level. I don't drink it for the purpose of getting so messed up I see a green fairy though haha I drink it for its taste :)

Absinthe doesn't really cause hallucinations. Tests have shown that the thujone concentration isn't enough to cause the hallucinations.

It turns out you just get smashed...

I still wanna try it for the taste :-)

I'm somewhat a beer geek. Which is a trouble for someone living in the seemingly most un-beerey country of those which are known for their drinking habits. So I can only choose out of what little gets shipped to these parts.

I most love

  • IPA (although I've yet to try an actually decent brew. I think it'd be a cool idea to jack it up to produce a poor man's equivalent of double IPA. Heat Death of the Universe is likely to occur quicker than any of the actual stuff getting shipped here)
  • Porter (St.Peter's Old Style)
  • Bitter (Young's London Ale, St.Peter's Best Bitter - NOT the organic variety!)
  • Czech pilsener (Budweiser Budvar, Gambrinus)
  • German pils (Jever)
  • Dry stout (Guinness Draught)
  • Belgian wheat beer (Hoegaarden)
  • Weizendunkel (Franziskaner, Erdinger)

I don't really like vodka (I'm a wrong Russian). When it comes to strong booze, I prefer brandy.

Just turned 21 at the end of July, so I've only been drinking for a little while, although I have drunk a nice variety of beers so far. Of the beers I've drunk, I'd say that my favorite at this point would have to be (1) Blue Moon, (2) Spotted Cow (a brand only made in Wisconsin), and (3) a nice German brew that I had in Holland, MI yesterday that's darker than it tastes called Great Lakes Oktoberfest.

I am not a hardcore drinker but I do enjoy the occasional drink or two. My fave is Midori. That stuff is like candy but has a rather high alcohol content. And it's such a pretty green color. As far as taking shots or anything like that, I have personally come to the conclusion that whiskey is the only way to go. Vodka doesn't settle with my stomach very well when I shoot it and it sits there like a foul tasting rock whereas whiskey does it's damage and quickly leaves my taste buds. Hennessy all the way. B)

I had the luxury of being 18 and living in Australia so I got to legally drink for a little while :P . You can never go wrong with Jim Beam, that was always my favorite. I was never a fan of sugary stuff because it would always make my stomach sick.

Okay I just want to say if you are not of legal age be patient and wait until you are of legal age. With that out of the way though I am not a heavy drinker I do enjoy a good beer every now and then. My favorites are Sam Adams especially the Octoberfest seasonal one, Peroni which is a nice Italian beer which though light still has a nice flavor to it and Negro Modello which goes great with Mexican food. So what are your favorite beers?

I usually don't drink beer too light for me. When i do drink beer though its PBR. I was told by a beer connoissuer that its the best beer to drink on a hot day. Sometimes I mix it together with fruity drinks. Tastes fantastic.

Negro modelo is amazing.

Also yay fellow beer lovers.

I love Rouge's Irish Lager, it is amazing not to mention only comes in 22oz bottles. I usually am a fan of stouts, I like bitter earthy flavors which makes me a big Guinness gal.

I recenty picked up some hobgoblin which I have yet to try but I will be giving a go soon.

There are too many good beers to pick just one, my friend, but in general I like a good Amber, IPA, Porter, or Stout. So a darker beer. And my favorite brewing companies are probably Rogue Brewing Company and Bridgeport Brewing Company. With Rogue in particular, I like their Dead Guy Ale. Also, there's this Double Stout by Green Flash Brewing Company that I really like. Also, I'm not sure who makes 'em, but Bigfoots. So those are a few I suppose.

Ahem.

I am 21, but I don't drink now, and I'm not sure if I want to. I've had a few alcoholic beverages before, and none tasted good enough to be worth getting drunk and doing stupid shit.

I mainly drink Budweiser and bud 66 (not sure what you Americans call that)

I always have at least 1 crate of bud 66 in my garage and drink on average 4 beers a week, so by no means am I a heavy drinker, sometimes I'll drink spirits for a bit of variance though. :)

Drinking beer is not about getting drunk - which I've pointed out to my younger brother multiple times (he's 18), its a refreshing drink and I drink it because i like the taste, only in certain circumstances do I drink to take the edge off, like when I have to go out to a party that I don't enjoy, I find drinking just enough to get tipsy makes me far more entertaining.

I'm 19, legal age for drinking in the UK is 18, I've been drinking beer since I was around 15 and I've only been drunk a handful of times (all within the past two years)

Are you saying I shouldn't post here, or that I shouldn't drink?

My opinion right now anyways is that even when I'm 21, I don't know if I'll want to drink that often. I'm afraid that if I drink to much when I first turn 21, I'll be trapped in the cycle known as Alcoholism. Just my opinion anyway.

I guess my favorite beer is root beer

I am down the pub with my friends every Tuesday and Friday for a few pints and then maybe on the weekend if the football is on.

I quite like alcohol in general even if I don't drink a lot but beer and proper ales are my favourite by far. My favourites beers change depending on the time of year, for example I'll mainly have lagers such as Becks or Peroni during the summer where it's nice to have a nice cold bottle on a hot day. Whereas during the winter I prefer things like Guinness or Old Speckled Hen where it's nice just to sit inside the pub for a while.

I have some great pubs in my village and one of thankfully does Fursty Ferret which is a really, really nice ale. Badger make some utterly brilliant drinks.

I don't drink any alcohol.. Why not?

Because I'm not interested or have any needs for it.

I do like it in my food sometimes though.. It can give you a good flavour now and then.. but drinks?

Not a fan.

I honestly think that if you are under the legal age and want to taste beer or whatever, you should just go for it. One drink can't harm.

My favorite beer(s) has to be either Heineken (dutch beer), and/or Tuborg (danish beer)
