I don't know the real answer to the topic question ... I mean there is 2 ways to see it :) :

1)Scootaloo is a really special filly even if she can't fly ... she can do a lot of stuff even so

2)On the other side if she could fly perhaps she would become even better

I think whether she flies or not that doesnt really matter all that matters its that she's a really special filly full of talent/potential with a great future in front of herself :)

I would like to see an episode where Rainbow Dash teaches her how to fly because it seems like she never was actually taught properly how to fly so she never went to flight camp and in generation 3 Scootaloo was an earth pony who used her scooter a lot to get around which is what they most likely based her off of.

They could show her coping with disability for a while, but I vote for her overcoming it and flying under her own power eventually. Good lesson for kids; sometimes disability and setbacks CAN be overcome in some cases, though not all of them.

I think she should be able to fly because I’m “Flight To The Finish” she shows a desire to fly when she asks Rainbow Dash “What if my wings never grow? What if I never fly?” And after Scootaloo crying over her disability I thought I might cry too, therefore I have reason to believe that Scootaloo SHOULD be able to fly. Regardless of what “Lauren Faust” says.

We knew it was coming all the way, because that MAKES HER an ORPHAN at all....

Tell me about it. I've used this image in this very thread back in June or July, but it sums up my own conflict about this subject. I still have a hard time deciding. But if she does fly, this will be me.

Yep, still feel the same conflict. Here's hoping it gets addressed in 2018.

I'm honestly surprised I didn't reply to this before.

I voted no on allowing her to fly. I think the issue should be left where it was in Flight to the Finish, where it's left ambiguous. In this way, both camps can be happy.

The problem with validating her flying is that, to me, it takes away from the intrigue of her having a disability. I understand this is an optimistic show and I'm ordinarily all for that, but, like...disabilities don't go away in real life. And it's really nice to have a character who has a disability who is treated fairly, loved equally, and allowed to flourish in other ways, as opposed to brute forcing her way past it - because you can't actually do that in reality. And what I appreciate about this show is making these subtle analogues, but the analogue would be entirely destroyed if it was confirmed that she could fly.

I wouldn't jump ship off the show if they permitted it, I'm sure you could make a great message out of that, and I'm cool with it in fanfiction, too, just... I don't know, the message is less impactful and it shuts those with disabilities out if they explicitly say she doesn't have one.

Given the poll's results, a lot of people want her to fly, so if they confirm she has a disability, my concern there is that they'll either 1) phone it in or 2) displease a lot of fans and spark debate, both of which I would prefer to avoid. Hence, the ambiguity that it currently has I think is the place that it should stay at.

I've had deep feelings for this for years now. Scootaloo's disability, or rather my ability to interpret she has one, has been something pretty significant to me during the show's run time, ever since the conversation first came up and the show lightly brushed upon it. It's a personal struggle that I can relate to, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's the same kind of thing I liked in Hurricane Fluttershy, where Fluttershy was still flying underneath the level of the lot of pegasi even by the end, but her effort still mattered in the end and her presence was still significant to contributing to the solution. That the effort to better yourself is still a worthwhile endeavor, even if you may never reach the levels that other people are at, and that your life still has meaning even if you're stuck in a rut you may never get out of.

For me, that's a far more significant message than "you can overcome literally every problem if you just try". It's more nuanced, more relatable, and something that doesn't sound blindly optimistic to the point of discouraging those who are in situations where their best won't overcome a problem, no matter how much they wish it to.

I pretty much agree with all of this. To me, as a character she is just fine the way she is... I do not need to see her fly or have them fully explain why she never will to validate her character for me. That being said, if they did go in one direction or the other, I would not pitch a fit over it, but it would remove some of the mystery and the ability to dream and ponder for ourselves. Seeing her fly would be cool since it is one of her huge dreams, and it is hard to not feel joy for her upon accomplishing that dream were it to happen. Not to mention her finally being allowed to join her idol and big sister where she loves to be most in the skies over Equestria... that being said she has already proven she does not need to fly to be the amazing, insightful, optimistic, adventurous, loyal and caring individual she already is. Rainbow Dash put is best in Flight to the Finish...

Maybe she will fly someday, maybe she won't, either way she is all kinds of awesome already.

I want to see Scootaloo fly, but not forever.
In the sense, if she starts flying like all the other ponies, it would be obvious and bad as the end of this matter (after 7-8 seasons), so I see her more on never flying her, but not out of malice, be it clear, she would simply be more "realistic" for his background
This does not mean that I will never see her fly, indeed, if this my thing is realized, I would like to see her in an episode flying even once with her own wings and make her feel the thrill of flying like all pegasi, before she puts again hooves on the ground

In short, I would like to fly her once in her life in some way to make this experience and make her happy and then leave her disabled for a question of her background and why "All good that ends well" would be just a bore

Have Scootaloo fly? Or have the hopes and dreams of this little foal be crushed?

All of right-thinking humanity is on my side. Sandwiches are meant to be cut in half. You would never, unless under extreme duress or madness cut a hot dog in half. Picture yourself at a ball park, or even at a restaurant, cutting a hot dog and you will feel an instinctive, entire repulsion at the very thought of it. You can get a soup with a half sandwich, but you’d never serve a half hot dog with a soup. It’s the equivalent of cutting a pizza with a knife and fork. Pashman says anything “sandwiched is a sandwich.” He’s using the derivative verb to describe the sandwich, so he is proving the premise with itself; it is a complete logical fallacy. I hope they’ll openly boo him.

I think it should stay ambiguous.  Unless it's a critical plot point, it's better to allow fans to come to their own conclusions.
