Any starts a good star, as far as I'm concerned.

What really started it for me was this:

Ponified versions of Mayhem and Mischief (fursonas of Renard and his girlfriend, though Mayhem is also a character he uses for music, and is his one female alter-ego), and a humanized picture of Derpy Hooves which people explained was from Friendship is Magic, so I decided that the two were connected and there was a reason I was suddenly seeing ponies everywhere, and that led me to the show.

Trust me, after reading far worse, Cupcakes IS laughable. I actually find it pathetically hilarious. And the Cupcakes animation with Ready to Die by Andrew WK makes me smile.

However, even still, being given a breakfast custom made to look like the remains of Rainbow Dash surprisingly made me more sick to my stomach than I thought it would. Curse my brother and his insane ideas...

I didn't find it grimdark at all (I still have yet to find out what that even means, but I know that it's not what I thought of cupcakes)

I found some parts a bit creepy, like the Rainbow Dash mask and the blood-dripping carcass, but I did laugh at that bagpipes part, even though it was positively disgusting.

I did feel queesy at some points, but I've seen much gorier things than cupcakes.

I still have yet to read Sweet Apple Massacre, I wonder how that will be.....

Cupcakes? that story was adorably written when compared to lets say, Japanese guro. The only redeeming factor this story ever had was the overreactions that came with it.

That thing is not only a horrible abomination to this fandom but to the art of writing in general. I could write better while half asleep, and I think I have!

Pinkie was already relatable, but Cupcakes made her almost an exact copy of me.(I'm NOT a murderer, I just have the creepiest fascination with blood, gore and pumping organs. Meat is just so... delicious.) Cupcakes was hilarious, I laughed the whole way. What am I saying!? It was disgusting, gut-wrenching, mind-blowing HORROR! I hated it! Delicious...

i loved every blood spurting, gore describing and psycho pinkamena diane pie moment, it was very well written and the "movie" was very well animated.

This is the only version of cupcakes I have ever seen.

I never liked gore, or horror, or blood, but I had heard of cupcakes alot, so when I heard of that version, I watched it.

Eghhhh, cupcakes...I remember about a week before I officially assimilated myself into the herd I watched a good 30 seconds of it then quit. I remember thinking, "I hope not all bronies like this stuff!"

Don't worry, not all bronies like this stuff, and I don't like it ethier. In fact I never watched or read the fanfic because I thought it was dumb, and it's stupid and it's stupid; and it's dumb.

This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.

This is an automatically generated message, by the way.

I remember when I read it. Didn't like it, then I got over it and got into fanfics alot. Didn't really bother me but for I would say a day over with, I do find my self with a strange obsession with Pinkamena however, not the Cupcakes one, just a psychotic Pinkie.

Anyways, my opinion is it wasn't that well written, was pointless gore, and overall not a good story.

Ha! I love Cupcakes HD. So delightfully demented.

Anyways Cupcakes. I'm on a mixed mind on this one. On one hand...it's pretty bad. As in, badly written. The gore is shocking, but it lacks substance. Sweet Apple Massacre is the same way, I really wouldn't recommend reading it.

On the other. It's kind of brilliant. But I think that brilliance is its downfall.

Let me elucidate. The thing that makes this fic so damn unsettling is Pinkie is depicted as a sociopath. Not an ax-crazy violent maniac or a shady, creepy stalker...but just. Pinkie. With absolutely no morality, no sympathy, no idea that what she's doing is sick and wrong. She's NORMAL. And that aspect alone is what made this fic for me. It's brilliant. The best AUs, I've found, are not those that warp the character into something unrecognizable, but those that take one familiar trait and find a way to twist it into something horribly wrong.

But I've never seen anyone that's been able to emulate that brilliance. The famous crookedtrees ask blog, for example? Way off the mark. He tried to depict her as depressed, brooding, and creepy, and it just wasn't close enough to the canonical character to have any real effect on me. Most art I see of Pinkamena has her looking so unlike her normal self, it's just...a painfully generic take on insanity.

So for that aspect alone, I commend this author. But other than that. Eh. I've read better fic. LOTS better.

Overrated and overhyped story.

I am a grimdark fan and I like the idea behind it, but the actual piece of literature is mediocre. I like a lot of the fan art of it, but so many people get their butthurt on over it. It's just fiction.

Cupcakes, was my first fanfic I had ever read, right before I actually became a real fan of the show. I heard a lot of mentionings on it around youtube via comments so when curiousity started to overwhelm me, I decided to check it out.

First reading: I didn't even think it was going to be a big deal...I mean it starts a out like a typical MLP episode, and I thought that was all I was gonna be reading. I mean there's nothing bad about the title "Cupcakes...infact, it sounded rather cliche and happy.

Just before the climax: What the freak is this!?!? Who thinks like this!??...was all I could think. First time I ever felt bad for Rainbow Dash before becoming a fan...and my view on Pinkie Pie....crazy pony is a psychotic freak!!

Climax(where Pinkie removes most of Rainbow Dash's interior organs...): That was the point where I was ultimately disturbed...and partially scarred.

After Reading: Who needs sleep anyways!

From that point on...I discovered what the internet is really made off. I have read so many more fanfics that are 10-100x more disturbing than cupcakes, to the point where though I can still get disgusted by such things, sadly I wouldn't be surprised....

...one fanfic being Cheerilee's Garden...for the love all that is good, do NOT read it!!!!(Unless your just sick and love gore and toture of course..)

Thanks to the "Smile, Smile, Smile" song and all the episodes I saw, Pinkie Pie is now one of my favorite characters. So this fanfic is now just a overrated and overused joke to me.

Poorly written, not scary or creepy in the slightest. Pretty standard gory shock-horror, i.e. fake, lame, needlessly over-the-top "horror".

So, not very good :P

I thought it was kinda funny to read what people were calling "a good horror Fic". It was generally gory but it wasn't anything I hadn't heard before. It is really over glorified.

It's over-popular (careful not using "the word") and basically a fanfic with a crappy plotline and exaggerated, disgusting scenes. People are mistaking the word "grimdark" for "mutilation." Gorefics absolutely disgust me, and it just makes me roll my eyes whenever I see someone saying along the lines of "omgish Cupcakes is the scariest fic ever, i couldnt sleep for two weeks." Get over it, it's just a bunch of words and not as scary as it seems.

Just like many other popular fanfics, like My Little Dashie and Rainbow Factory, Cupcakes seems to have reached that point where people talk too much about it and those who didn't like it get extremely annoyed. But if this one can be considered "overrated" or not, I find it to be a matter of opinion.

Being a mild fan of grimdark myself, I enjoyed it because of how an innocent cartoon character was portrayed as a psychopath. I find it interesting somehow.

Obviously not the best fanfic ever written and also not all that scary. But then again, it's a matter of opinion - I liked it because of the wicked 'what-ifs' these gorefics provide, nothing else.
