I would never choose to be immortal. If I were, I would grow to be very bitter and depressed as everyone I cared about would eventually age and die. Nothing would be exciting and new anymore and I would be bored. I'm rather satisfied living a normal life.

A hundred percent behind it. I mean if I am cognitively in my prime for hundreds of years doesn't it mean I have a higher cognitive potential to aid others or society or such? As long as I don't become a bum and keep up on education or the like.

I would like to live a normal lifetime but not be killed by anything other than Old age, Or at will.

Even though I know I'm going to hell when I die (I'm transgender and pansexual, so I have a one way ticket to hell.)  I wouldn't want to be immortal.

Hey! you be you, ok? No punishment is worth not being who you are!

After 9 years in development, hopefully it would have been worth the wait

"Everyone die around you." Again and again, I hear this. I direct you all to this trope: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LivingForeverIsAwesome

Okay to answer the question personally, yes, I would take it. I would have all the time to learn all the languages and martial arts I want. (Two areas I'm trying to have skill with, the latter more than the former.) I would live to see the ages of humanity as we move forward. Imagine if one received this gift at say, before WWI, just look at how much the world has changed and how much has happened since then alone? What will come next? I'd be excited to see, maybe even play a small part in by happenstance or maybe willful involvement. I would have thousands of friends, dozens of loves, family after family. Then one day, when humanity has spread out to the stars and everyone can become immortal like me through some advanced Singularity, I would invite my death happy that I lived a truly full life.

You've been hearing from the wrong Christians, then.

Princess Anna: Do you wanna be imooooortaaaaal?

NO

Princess Anna: Come on, let's never diiiiiiie!

NO

Princess Anna: But there's so much to explore, if you're a corpse, that'll make me crrrrrry!

We could live forever. I don't understand, I wish you would tell me wwwwwwhy!

You don't want to be immortal--

Gosh Anna -- shut up! :diamondtiara: Don't ask me why I thought of this, lol ^_^ Anyway, jokes aside, I wouldn't want to be immortal in the current state the world is in. I wouldn't want to watch my loved ones waste away and die while I not age a day. However, I believe the spirit never dies, because energy can never end; only transfer. When I pass away, I believe my spirit will live on, but the difference is it won't be in a broken and fallen world where people can die -- in which case, I would very much want to be immortal. I guess, spiritually speaking, I already am.

Yes, only because it would destroy some of my anxieties entirely. I am always so afraid of things that could 'hurt' me or something of that nature, overly-paranoid as it were, this would eliminate said problem.

Immortal life does sound like it would be something that every person wishes to behold, but for me, I wouldn't want to live forever.

It's simple, I'm ready to embrace death when the time comes. I just don't think it's worth having immortality if I can't enjoy it with the people I care about and having to witness many others entering and leaving my life. It would seem enjoyable at first, but I know that after a while I will start to become depressed and give up on hope.

All in all, I wouldn't want eternal life, I'm happy with the life I have now. :)

I would take it without a second thought. There is absolutely no downside to this, because if at one point I'd decide my life had run its course I could simply stop living. If I had the ability to alter the deal a bit I'd make sure my girlfriend became immortal too. In that case I would probably outlive the planet.

well, i would be able to see holograms be invented and then say "back in my day, we had the iphone 6, not these newfangled eyephones!"

but outliving family and friends would be depressing.

I would have to say no. Although I love life, and somewhat worry I will not be able to attain everything I want, I feel like I would not be able to handle seeing everyone I care about die around me. It would be too dis-orientating to see society change around me, and unbearably lonely to not be able to make any long connections.

The poll sucks, but yeah, I would take that deal. Apparently it take 10,000 hours to master a particular skill, so I'd master every skill, and become the God Emperor of Earth, and when I finally got tired of it, could just lay down the immortality by killing myself. Unless I learned that suicide would be the ultimate unforgivable sin in the meantime, in which case I would wait until the final heat death of the universe and then see what happens after that.

Assuming I don't physically and mentally age, I would go for it without hesitation. If I were to be 1,000 years old and end up looking like a fossil, I would sort of regret it though.

I would seize this opportunity without a seconds thought, I would pay a much higher price in fact to see how the world would be shaped years, centuries, thousands of years into the future I would not pass such an opportunity regardless of the costs involved my desire to see the world progress would be too great.
