I don't get scared. I just say to myself that I probably had more chance dying on the car journey to the airport than on the plane.

Flying is cool. Flying in someone else's plane is cool, but I've heard that owning and flying your plane is wonderful, amazing, the ultimate freedom, etc.

I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was akin to a slow death. You would think that the more you get on planes, the more comfortable with flying you become. But that isn't the case for me. I've probably flown on airplanes upwards of twenty times in my life, and I'm still not completely, 100% comfortable with it. I still freak out silently to myself when the plane hits turbulence and when it banks sharply to the left or right.

And I know people always say "Car crashes are far more common than airplane crashes", and while that's true, it doesn't particularly make me feel any better for two reasons. The first reason is that a car crash doesn't exactly guarantee that you won't survive, whereas when an airplane crashes, there is a far greater likelihood that you'll die than you'll survive, even if you perform the "head-between-knees" technique. The second reason is that car crashes are quick and over in pretty much an instant---before you even realize your car crashed, it already happened. With airplane crashes, you will realize that the plane is crashing long before it does. I shudder at the thought of waiting long, painfully agonizing seconds while the plane continues to lower itself to the ground.

Well, i took my first flight during a summer vacation when i was a kid. I admit i was unsettled at first, being inside a man-made aircraft at the mercy of it's pilot and mechanical stability seemed troubling, but i was talked into it by my parents. It wasn't that bad, really, it just takes getting used to if it's something you never tried.

Other than that, yeah, i actually find the flight itself quite pleasing, at least most of the flights iv'e been on were.

I love flying in airplanes.

The view outside the window is so pretty, the sun and the fluffy white clouds just outside your window.

There are a couple downsides though.

I dislike is sitting next to people I don't know and being confined to my seat for such a long period of time. And it's not really fun to get up and move around the plane. You just wind up in people's way.

But the WORST thing that can happen is having your ears pop.

It doesn't always happen, but when it does, OWWWWWWWWWIE!!

But I'd still take the chance to fly in a plane anytime it presents itself though.

It's alright overall. But one thing I dislike about it is when the plane is in a windy spot. That makes the plane shake and it makes me feel like the plane is going to crash.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

I feel free up in the sky, away from everything, up above the clouds. I find it...peaceful. It's the main reason I love flying in a plane whenever I can  :)

I love flying, it's awesome to look down on everything but it's nothing special, I tend to fly alot and it loses it's charm

My girlfriend lives in another country, so I fly quite often as that is definitely the most efficient way to get from place to place. I don't think there's anything bad about flying, in fact I love it. The feeling of taking off is amazing, especially if you get a window seat and can watch the ground getting further and further away. It's amazing.  :D

People always ask me "But aren't you afraid the plane will crash?" but the fact is, the chances of a plane crashing are so minimal, there's nothing to be afraid of. It's more likely for me to die crossing the street than by flying.

In short, as one of my favourite wizards says: FLY YOU FOOLS!  :yay:

Flying is absolutely awesome. I love heights and I've been in planes countless times. It's not just the flying that's cool, either.

That moment where the plane is at the start of the runway waiting for the final clearance for takeoff, and then the rumble of the engines that grows ever louder, into a huge roar. Then the plane starts picking up speed and then you feel that lurch in your stomach as the wheels clear the ground. That sensation of being in a huge elevator and watching as the ground beneath gets ever smaller...amazing.

Landing is cool too, because you usually get a pretty good look at the ground when the plane turns to make its approach and especially at night the lights are stunningly beautiful. Then as you get closer to the runway the skids and flaps go all the way out and you just feel the speed dropping, and then there's the shock of touching down.

When I went to Rome on a school trip we went by plane. A lot of people had never flown before, and when the plane landed they applauded...only we hadn't landed yet. It was a bit of turbulence from a side wind or something just above the tarmac. Not a second after someone said, "That was a surprisingly gentle landing" we actually touched down with a rather hard impact. People applauded again. I just laughed at those who'd almost fallen out of their seats upon touchdown. (I never did understand the applauding part. The captain's just doing his job. Sure, it's a hard job, but it was a routine flight in easy conditions. He lands planes like that daily.)

I've been flying since I was a toddler to places all around the world. From the Middle East to Central Europe. (Sadly never the Asiatic sphere, something I hope to fix in the future.)

I could never imagine being afraid of flying because it's always an exciting experience. It means I'm either going somewhere new, or I'm going home. Not to mention, just looking out the window and seeing the vast, ever changing cloudscape. I could see why the pegasi would house their civilization up there, it's breathtaking.

Welp, nevermind.

I'm all about flying. I want to be an airline pilot someday, although it's a hard, demanding path.

I do flight sim a lot, hence my title name.

I love flight, and I am always messing around with flight sims.

I am an aviation major at school and I am hoping to be an airline pilot, although I wasn't able to start school last year like I had planned. However I am planning to start on my private pilots certificate within the next month or so, and I will hopefully be able to go to school for it this year.

Love flying! Always have always will. Although.. my first time flying in a plane there was about an hour delay before we could board the plane.. we finally boarded the plane.. then.. just as the wheels were about to touch off the ground the left engine blew.. so that was a bit of a jump scare..
I've never been skydiving, but I've always wanted to.. I'm thinking about going this year.

You may not agree but I love flying but it's not in the way you might all be talking about? I'm talking about FLYING!!! Observe the best way to travel is the one I used to dream about when I was younger... Imagine soaring high above the ground and then you find yourself above your house, and then go higher as you're looking down on the city. And then also imagine you have large muscles and a big flappy red cape?

Get where this is going? Superman the man who don't need to catch a plane... Unless it's crashing.

This has been SuperBrony87 and in the words of Sugar Ray "IIIII just wanna fly." Thanks for reading!

  • 9 years later...

I flew that helicopter once and rode in a passenger jet a few times. Still don't like heights though >_>

  • Thanks 1
