What character pair-ups would you like to see in Season 5?

In this thread, I am talking about character pairings that we have not yet seen on the show that would be interesting to explore in the new season.

In the past, we have had both episodes starring all of the main characters as well as episodes focussing on just one character, but we have also had episodes that prominently feature the combination of two characters that interact frequently throughout the episode.

Thus far, common pairings seem to be that of Applejack and Rarity in episodes like "Look before you sleep" and "Simple ways", and Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash in episodes like "Hurricane Fluttershy" and "May the best pet win", but we have also had quite a number of other combinations over the past 4 seasons including Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Fluttershy, Applejack and Twilight, and Spike and the CMC. 

Yet, there still seem to be some possible combinations that have yet to happen on the show, or at least pairings that have not been capitalised much upon as of yet. I think it's interesting to discuss these because I believe there to be characters that haven't really interacted together much, and would be great to see their relationships develop.

For one, I don't think we've really ever had a proper episode focusing purely on just Rarity and Pinkie Pie together, nor have we seen Spike really interact much with anyone outside of Twilight and Rarity for a whole episode (Applejack as well I suppose, but I still think that could be developed more). All of the main cast have had at least one episode where they get to interact with the CMC, but I think Pinkie Pie has yet to have an episode with them. What about characters outside of the main cast, like Discord and Luna, or Cadence and Shining Armour? It's here where I actually have to applaud the comic series for showcasing a few of these pairings such as Spike and Celestia and Discord and the CMC, all of which have been thoroughly entertaining.

But in terms of the actual show and it's future in season 5, what pairings and combinations would you like to see? Which ones have already happened but you would like to see more of? Which ones would work? Do some have more potential than others? Feel free to express you ideas to your hearts content!

Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia. Seriously, Twilight is the former student of Celestia, but we haven't really explored their relationship with one another. We need to have an episode focusing on just the two.

Hmm, honestly there are a lot of pair ups that could be amusing, but since the comics are taking a lot of those on, when it comes to the show I would have these three as my top ones.

 

1. Rarity and Rainbow Dash: Given these two are the only ones who had defined goals at the start of the series, I think they having a ep about possible changes in what they want as their goals in life or reaffirming their life goals is in order

 

1. Pinkie and Fluttershy: We really haven’t had an ep with them and I think there’s a lot of potential for some fun, heartwarming episodes for this mix.

 

1. Spike + (RD,FS,PP): Since we have already had him with Twi and AJ, plus a lot of Rar ones, I think Spike with any of the other girls would make for a good time as well as more healthy development for Spike. Twi gives spike the parental / family story angles, AJ and down to earth ones and Rar the young love ones. So the other girls have a lot of room to help him develop as well as give them some nice bonding with him as friends.

Twilight/Applejack/Rainbow.

They all have very strong personalities and their friendship is based on trust. I always love interactions between all three of them and episode focused on them is my personal dream.

 

Also: 

 

• Rarity / Rainbow Dash - considering that they have so much in common (they're both ambitious, stubborn, focused on their appearance...) I'm really shocked that there was no episode about them so far
• Pinkie / Fluttershy - personally, I always thought that it's a little odd that Rarity x Applejack are so often mentioned as "opposites'', because they actually have a lot in common, while Pinkie and Flutters... well, not really. I'd love to see episodes in which they do something together. It'd be fun
• another Rainbow Dash / Applejack episode - yeah, I know, these two already had the episode about them, but it was at the beginning of season 1! their friendship changed significantly
• Twilight / Applejack - they often interact with each other, but it was quite some time, since they shared one, which I find rather odd, because their friendship is very mature and full of understanding and their little moments in the show almost always make me smile
• Rarity / Pinkie - not much to say here... I just want to see it XD
• Fluttershy / Applejack - maybe the episode, in which AJ helps 'Shy with animals? after all AJ cares about nature almost as much as Fluttershy

Pinkie and Rarity. While I would like to see Rarity and Rainbow Dash do something together, I'd think Pinkie would be a stronger contrast, and probably be more interesting. From the little moments we've seen from Rainbow and Rarity, they seem to get on fine. With Pinkie, the only moment that comes to mind is "The Last Roundup," and Rarity seemed quite annoyed.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, that could make for a really interesting pair lol, I think Pinkie Pie would annoy the crap out Rarity, Rarity would probably blow up at her at some point. xDD

 

Also, I'd love to see Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy, as well as Fluttershy and Rarity.

 

And pretty much any of the others that are above, they all would be interesting!!

I think I'll throw my support in for a Rairity and RD episode.

 

I want to see Pinkie with the CMC in a CMC growth episode. RD, Rarity, Fluttershy, Twilight, and Applejack have all contributed or driven episodes with the CMC ... not so much Pinkie.

 

This may be unpopular, but maybe pairing returning or minor characters with someone you wouldn't expect, would compliment the characters, or would show an interesting juxtaposition. Such as:

 

Diamond Tiara and Rarity

 

Trixie and Applejack

 

Lightning Dust and Fluttershy

 

Cherilee and Pinkie

 

Big Mac and RD

 

Mayor Mare and Twilight

 

Gilda and the CMC

 

Obviously not all of them, but pairings in the same mindset. Some we wouldn't expect, and a few that make sense but can add to the minor character in some way.

That's all. I mean, since the "Celestia might as well be Spike's surrogate mother" fanon has been pretty much crushed in that one official comic - and I know many people don't see them as canon, but I like to - Spike's only family-like thing left are Twilight and her family.

"Nothing much. Twilight just managed to transform all her books into carnivorous plants. Again."

Rainbow Dash and Rarity has my full support. I would really like to see more interaction between these two, since the most we've had so far has been in Sonic Rainboom. I think it would be interesting to explore their friendship a bit more.

 

That reminds me, I really want an episode explaining how the other members of the Mane 6 met each other. We only know that Fluttershy and Dashie went to Flight Camp together and I can assume that Rarity and Applejack grew up together but that's about it.

Unfortunately, it seems to me as though character pair-ups are gradually disappearing - take season 1 which was full of them (Feeling Pinkie Keen, Green Isn't Your Color, Look Before You Sleep, Fall Weather Friends, Griffon the Brush Off (RD and Pinkie)) and all the seasons after have been having less. I guess it depends on what you consider to be a pair-up episode though.
