Wait... what?

I don't know about the others, or about being "famous", but I only popped into the chat maybe ten times or so when it was here. The people that know me know me because of posting on the forums.

This entirely, hehe. I really kind of stopped going into chat within my first month of registration and I'd like to think that most of my notoriety - so to speak! - comes from my posts and not from whatever presence I might've had in the chatroom when I was there.

The fact that the chatroom more or less devolved into a nonsensical cesspool 80% of the time did my activity within it no huge favors. If you're looking to become somewhat notable, post. That's all I can say to it. Post like you mean it. There's a lot to offer here so do try to take full advantage of it now that the chat is closed down.

This one thousand percent. The best way to become well known and reputable on a forum is to participate in its discussions. Hundreds of members and thousands of guests browse the sections and threads every day, while a vocal minority of the site's members ever visited the chat (and many never even ventured outside of there).

You gain reputation on a forum by making quality, memorable posts; starting (and maintaining) great threads; and being friendly and approachable. Crispy is well known for his metal thread, for instance. Kyronea, Scootacool, and Thereisnospoon303 are well known for the detailed episode analyses and critiques they post every week. Pencils, Veece, and Blue are three members whose posts generally tend to be filled with great points and wonderful insights. There are a whole slew of members who are simply nice to everyone and try to help people out with their personal issues over in the Life Advice section. Some people frequent the Welcoming Plaza to try and give new members the best possible impression.

I could go on all day, but I hope you get the point - those who make quality contributions to the site are members whose names are seen and remembered. That's how you gain reputation among your fellow MLP Forums users. Not by bumming around and spamming nonsense in the chatroom all day, which is only ever seen by the 20-30 people that happen to be in there with you when you did it.

In the end, this thread made me sad. Not because the chat is dead, but because of what I see now.

I use to be somebody. Not famous, but at least known. Now, I"m barely known anymore. I do feel a slight envy know and then, usually no matter what the famous people say, they get brohoofs. But me, my posts get ignored.

Maybe it was the chat's fault. Maybe it was my fault...

Thank you Zoop. It means a lot to me.

However, I am still sad...

RaccoonBL, I still remember you as someone from the first wave of members, and you have no idea how happy I am that you're still sticking around and actively posting. You're far from a forgotten member for me. :)

Now, as for Tiaaaaa... why not PM her? You never know - she might still have email notifications enabled. :) I've managed to bring a few members back on other forums before with a simple, friendly message.

THE CHAT ISN'T DEAD, JUST MIA!

Office Of Forum Intelligence Section Two Directive 930:

To maintain morale and preserve the myth that Chats cannot die, any Chat casualties are listed as Missing In Action (MIA) or Wounded In Action (WIA), but never Killed In Action (KIA).

LT. Zalgo; MLPF

ACTIVE DUTY: 2011-

For the first time in 2 days, Zalgo returns to the site of... Chat

--------

"what is that?"

"a shell from a sniper rifle"

------

it's amazing there's still so many remnants out here. Where's the chat's grave?"

"I don't think anyone really knows. There was a ceremony two days ago. Over there. Just as a symbolic gesture. The coffin was empty."

----------

"why was it empty?"

"No Chatroom could be listed as KIA. They could only be listed as MIA. Missing. So it could be said that no Chatroom was ever killed in combat. So the ceremony was a tribute rather than a burial"

------------

"it doesn't look much?"

"Chat told me once that no feature should be honored for doing what it's expected"

-------------

"do you believe that?"

"I did. And I still do"

Bumming and spamming aren't the only things we do we actually talk about the show and discuss current events and help each other out when in trouble but that's only what others see because we try to have fun a little and they leave right after the fact.

Now i see why oldtime forum members always say "One does not simply become a Feld0".

But the one time i ever seen you in the chat, was when you shut it down the first time. This is supoosed to cut back on Upkeep and get members more active in the actual forums? Am I correct?

If so I see no reason to not move forward with this!

I quite enjoyed Gummy's brief return although he seemed more abrasive? (yet hilarious) than his 1st go-around

In addition to what Veece said, donations and money have nothing to do with it. Every single one of my staff members, including myself, works as a volunteer to maintain this site for you all. MLP Forums is a friendly fan community, not a business. The "I'm not gonna donate" threat doesn't hold much weight for us.

In reference do my post-did not mean to sound like a threat- but why would i honestly want to full donate to something i will rarely ever use, i cant have a conversation not in real time and chat let me connect with other bronies. well yea.. +i know yall work for free, but site does have upkeep costs-btw iy was not meant as a threat

To those of you who think you have "nothing to do" on MLP Forums, I just hope you realize that we are a sprawling website with over 10,000 discussion threads, an active roleplaying community, two game servers, and a deviantART group. There is still loads to do, if only you venture out into the rest of the site.

I don't see anything stopping you from doing all that on the forums.

If you really want to talk to someone personally, exchange Skype or Windows Live Messenger ID's with them. Problem solved.

Some people dont have the money to pay for games, cant play RP for limiations (A Language Barrier, for example), or cant draw. I used the chat everyday because it was a nice and a FAST way to speak with people and share they thoughts. I loved the chat.

Well, i will need to wait for being invited to the skype group (and i fail to see the difference between skype and Chatroom moderatio)

It is this reason that some Use chat because it is really hard to socialize with people in real life and some are shy and can't just walk up to people and make friends like me I am really shy and the chat was a way to talk and make friends that are bronies it is a safe way to talk to bronies because In real life if I and somepeople tell that we are bronies and like the show they would make fun of us and hate us and call us names chat was one of those things that I met some cool people and made some friends and now you took that away

At this point, I'm not surprised. The chat was given to us as a celebratory gift for hitting one thousand members (trust me, I would unfortunately know...) so it would be easy for the admin to take it away as fast as it did to take it out. I kinda appreciate it to an extent, because now its fair game for forumers to get to know each other over things like music, games, debates and ponies as opposed to mainly being awesome in the chat. I'm happy about this (though I will miss 3am chatting).

One thing I don't like though is the tags for this. "Armageddon", "Destruction" "Death" (are they trying to promote metal or something? :P ) - Even though that this is a serious discussion over something so impactful to the site, the tags sound silly/stupid.

I try to inject a little bit of silliness into most things I do. It helps keep me from taking myself too seriously. Apologies if the tags offended you. :)

Offend, no - not even close. Just seemed a bit misplaced in my view.

Ah the nostalgia. I remember it like it was yesterday. We hit 500 members,

I was holding a contest/giveaway, Flare had yet to earn his cutie mark in vectoring,

and we got IP.Chat.

Oh the rejoicing that was had, by members and staff alike. But, alas, all good things come to an end, or in this case, a good thing that turned into a not-so-good thing. I will miss you chatroom.

For one, we can actually delete inappropriate messages. Two, it's not as glitchy. Three, it moves slower and is a lot easier to handle. Four, since less people are likely to have Skype, it won't have as many members in it at a given time. Edited by Arylett Dawnsborough

Make a chat-thread.

Relax the rules in it a bit to make posting threshold lower for those Chat addicts.

I know such a thing is totally unheard of and will mostly result in lot of tears and outcries of unfairness not to mention lot of broken hearts and minds.

But it Might. Just. Work.

(Then again, there was these places called "Forums" where it worked really well for an extended period of time. But that's really not relevant here.)

-Nobody Cares about glitches

-What makes it easier to handle. Is not like you cant ban users from accesing the chat.

-And how is having LESS people in is a bad thing???

The only valid point there is deleting the innapropiates messages.Still, is not enough to delete the chat.
