Whats your zombie survival plan?

I have both hunting guns (hunting rifles, and 12 gauge shotguns baby!) and SWAT issued guns, such as an M4 Carbine, a Glock, an MP5, and some .308 sniper rifle, so I think I'm set with the guns.

OK, so the outbreak has begun. The army is unprepared and is barely holding the line.

Well, I'm a soldier. And since sicknesses spread very quickly among soldiers, I don't know if I'd survive.

-

But let's say that I did. Best case scenario, I survive with an M4 Carbine or M9 Pistol, and a couple magazines of ammunition. Let's say I start off in my current barracks room, with my current supply of food and water.

I'd immediately bar my door, to make sure nobody follows me in. There's a window I can escape through if I get cornered. I'd then start packing stuff into my backpack; non-perishable foods, bottled water, a flashlight and batteries, and cold-weather clothes and jackets. Most of my standard-issued uniforms are pretty sturdy, and I'd want to be identified by survivors as someone who potentially can lead a group if I need to, so I'd keep them.

I would not pack my kevlar helmet, ballistic vest, hazmat suit or gas mask. My vest and helmet protect against bullets, so unless I'm getting shot at, I don't see a need for them. They're also heavy, and I need to be able to move fast. The hazmat suit and mask that I have are rated only against chemical threats, not biological threats, so they'd be useless to me.

After packing food, water and clothing, I'd search the other barracks rooms for any extra food, water, or ammunition. I'd try to keep my pack light, at most 35 lbs, so I can move quickly with it.

I'd then run to the nearby motor pool and try to break into one of the Humvees. Each Humvee has a Basic Issue Item (BII) set, which includes a first aid kit and an axe. The axe would serve as my primary zombie-dispatching tool, and I'd try to conserve ammunition for emergencies.

There are lots of Humvees at the motor pool, and they all have different configurations. With luck, I'll find one that runs well, doesn't have a backseat, is full of fuel (we store them with some fuel inside), and has an open back or canvas cover. Canvas is thick enough to stop a zombie from trying to climb inside with me, and I can patch it if I need to. I wouldn't take an armored Humvee, since I don't need to be stopping bullets, and a lighter Humvee will consume less fuel. I would dump the radios if I could; since comms are down, there's no reason to have them, and they're just extra weight. I would make sure to keep the Humvee manual, since it provides guidance on how to fix the Humvee if it breaks down.

I'd bring an oil bin and oil can, spare batteries, as well as a slave battery to jumpstart my Humvee if the battery dies. All of this stuff can be found at the motor pool, and would be loaded into the back.

After all that, I'd drive the Humvee to the fuel point, fill up as many jerry cans as I could, and drive to the armory. I'd break the lock on the armory, probably with the axe, and secure as much ammo as possible.

-

At the end of this short-term plan, I'd have a working Humvee with plenty of oil, a spare battery, a jumpstarter, and plenty of fuel. I'd still have an axe and a weapon with ammo, and a few days' worth of water and food. The Humvee would provide safety from a horde, as well as a place to sleep. If the roads are bad, the Humvee is sturdy enough to offroad to some extent.

During the day, I'd try to scavenge food and water from stores in town or around the base. The axe can help me break into places if I need to, as well as cut up any zombies I may encounter. If I need to fight at a distance, I have a weapon that I'm trained with, and plenty of ammo. I'd try to keep from firing though, since it would increase my sound signature.

During the night, I'd park my Humvee somewhere defensible, such as in a fenced parking lot, and try and sleep. If I have free time, I'd read the Humvee manual, to better my knowledge on my vehicle. It's the only vehicle I'd have access to, so I'd need to take good care of it.

If I encountered survivors, I'd immediately take control of the situation with my weapon; they may be armed and may want to loot me. If they appear hostile, I'd shoot to kill. Gruesome, I know, but I can't risk my life or my supplies. If they aren't hostile, I'd help them, potentially giving or trading supplies, but I wouldn't team up with them. If they have wounded members, I'd try and treat their wounds.

If I encountered a large horde, I'd try to avoid them, and would only start gunning them down if I'm cornered. If I'm overrun, I'd kill myself. One less zombie in the world.

What would I do?

What would I do???

I would have prepared for the apocalypse as soon as the first news of a zombie virus (that effects humans) surfaces. The first thing I would do is stock up on lots of dry/canned foods and water as well as other necessities needed like flashlights, blankets, weapons and the lot. Then stock up on my family's and general medications as quickly as I could. After everything is good to go supply-wise, I would research safe locations out of the country (preferably Canada). If there is no way to leave the country, I would try to find an isolated place up near the mountains to keep my family safe. If there are survivors encountered up there, I would inspect/question them before letting them stay. Any sign of bites or aggressive behavior would immediately make me take them out. I can imagine running out of supplies eventually so I would take it upon myself to get more when needed.

That's all I can think of for now.

I'd get a portable stereo and blast an alternating selection of country music, polka and rap as loud as I could. That should scare away pretty much anything.

Then I'd simply enjoy the low lines at the grocery store and anywhere else I want to go.

It would really depend where I'd currently be once it begun. If I was at home, I'd gather food, water and my medication. I would go to the local university and take refuge there. I would use the resources there to stay alive. If it begun while I was at classes, I would escape the campus and travel for 30 to 40 minutes into the woods. There is bridge deep into it, so I would sleep there for the night. The next day, I would have to spend hours to get to my house and acquire my medication. I would also have to make brief pit-stops for food and water.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I would probably first stayed at my home for a few days. Then reach to the small convenient store to savage supplies and food.  I'm not gonna go the weapon store since it's the first place a horde of greedy bastards will go. I will get my weapon by savaging. Then head out of town far as possible and make home in the wood.

I think it'd be important to try find the people you trust as soon as possible, and then isolate yourselves from everyone else. If I survived, surviving alone would be lonely and it's hard to live without social interaction anyway.

Realistically, the zombies will eventually die out from rotting or starving, due to how as they grow, the less they have to feed on. After they die, society is gone and it's up to who's left to survive. You don't know if people are going to be willing to cooperate in a survival scenario or not so having your own community of friends means you can trust each other to cooperate.

This was fun to think about, Thanks!

Good question.  My plan for a zombie outbreak is exactly the same as my plan for a catastrophic weather event, earthquake, super volcano eruption, or basically any other civilization-ending event: suicide.  My life's okay, but it's not worth it to me to continue if everything goes to hell.  Life isn't that valuable to me.

My main objective would be to get north to Northern Ontario. There's very little population density there, so there wouldn't be any zombies in theory. I would probably bunker down initially until things calm down. I don't really have any weapons apart from knives, so fighting wouldn't be a good option.

I would build a big ass wall around my property and just chill. I live in a fairly rural area and I'm a gun nut, so I'm good to go. ^_^
