Cupcakes the Fanfic

*facehoofs* Cupcakes again? I thought people had moved on.

Actually it was one of the first MLP fanfics I read (and the first grimdark) and, admittedly I was a little surprised at the time, but when I finished reading it I actually laughed at myself for caring. It's just a fanfic and as others have said, it's nowhere near the scariest most gory fanfic in the fandom is it?

I didn't like it personally. Not because I don't like grimdarks or gore, just because it had almost no story and barely anything apart from the killing scene.

I'm wondering whether to watch the fanfic "Cupcakes", in which Pinkie Pie makes cupcakes out of Rainbow Dash. If anyone has seen it, could you give me comments about it and suggestions to watch it or not. And I would also like to know on a scale of 1-10, how scary it is and how gory it is. If you want to give me suggestions to watch after or before I watch "Cupcakes", I would appreciate that. Thanks!

It's overhyped. It's just a fanfiction. Jesus, really? Has anyone even heard the interview with the author? He wrote it because he was tired of PinkieDash shippers.

 

It's just a story.

I don't see why everyone makes such a huge deal about it.

Much like "The Human Centipede" people just blew this one way out of proportion. Yeah, I get the show is nice and sweet but some of the reactions are more disturbing than the fic itself.

Besides there's worse gorefics, Cupcakes has gotten more attention, that's all.

Your not the only one, enough people laughed at that it's mentioned on YMMV page of it's TVtropes entry. The story is rather absurd once you step bad and look at it as "My Little Pony's murdering each other in over the top ways".

I agree. I found the story to be more funny than anything. It might've been disturbing to me had the characters been humans, but imagining cartoon ponies in this situation is pretty hilarious. It's kind of like a mockery of the "Saw" franchise

Of course it's laughable, it's hardly the greatest piece of prose ever written in terms of, well, anything, from grammar to storyline. It's only famous because people allow it to be famous. Any rational person knows to separate canon from fanon when it comes to things like gorefics, anyway, because we all -should- know that the real fun-loving Pinkie would never act that way in a million years.

I didn't actually read it myself, but I read plenty of quotes that people posted of the parts that bothered them the most, and I had the same reaction. Partly to how bad the lines actually were, in writing, understanding of actual biology, and that if people were being bothered by it how it was, I could probably traumatize them into a coma if I were to do a rewrite.

 

A friend called my bluff on this, and I told them details that were missing that would of made the scene more... disturbing. I'll spoiler things that might be too much for some people, just to not offend anyone.

 

Now I grew up on on Turok, DOOM, Duke Nukem, PREDATOR, Aliens, and things like that. In Turok 2, you can

blow the arms, legs, tail, and head off a raptor and watch it's body flop around, gurgling, in a pool of it's own blood

. This didn't make me a more violent person, because I'm really not, but it did make it so if I need to come up with a violent scene I can have some ideas.

 

Anyway, I believe it was the scene where

it was the heads of the foals with the party hats made from their own skins just sitting there, that I used as an example, and I just listed details that I would of added. Didn't even rewrite the scene, just things like, "I'd add in there being some congealed blood caked around the location, as well as a god awful stench permeating the air, and add in the insects that would undoubtedly be there (there were I believe two other things I would of added but I can't remember).

This made my friend, who had nightmares after reading Cupcakes, to become nauseous and receive two more days of nightmares. Unfortunate, but he did call my bluff.

 

I did read Rainbow Factory and had a similar reaction, though. Not because it was necessarily poorly written, but because it was in the weird place where it simultaneously suffered from too much or too little information. A lot of the scenes would of been made better by less or more information. The two most notable are

the machine being unable to properly process ribs so it breaks them, which in my opinion it should of either not explained that the machine has problems with the ribs and just have it break them and leave it up to the reader to decide whether it's an important design feature, or just a sadistic one implemented by the designer, not just "Oh, the machine has problems processing pony's ribs *twist* *crack*" and leave it at that.

The second one was, and this spoiler has important plot details, so it is literally a spoiler,

was where Dash was, I believe it was worded, "Tearing through the colts and fillies with her bare hooves." This line (however it was actually worded, but that was the point of the line right there), made me stop, do that position where you put your thumb on your cheek, and your index and middle finger on your temple, and ask aloud, "What? Is she the HULK now?" It could of just said that she was working her way through them, leaving out the tearing them apart with her bare hooves part, or go into a bit more detail as to how exactly she was pulling that off. Either way would of made the scene better to me, and these are crucial scenes in it.

Oh yeah, also, my lack of reading it but knowing enough about it has led to me being able to enjoy "Cupcakes" based things to their fullest usually with no consequences. I was addicted to CrookedTrees "Ask Pinkamena Diane Pie" tumblr, I just didn't like going to the first page due to that one NSFW one. But someone kindly asked him not to do stuff outside his NSFW tumblrs and he agreed, so the rest of the ones were fine, provided you could stand blood.

I read it... It's a fan-fiction, nothing more nothing less. It is pretty nasty in some spots, but thats me. I think it only became famous, because people talk about it all the time.

I am not a fanfiction reader so I don't know, but "Cupcakes" was the first grimdark fiction I heard about.

Speaking of that, Cupcakes was how I first came to know of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the first place! a rather weird start eh?
