  1. Aww, that sucks! But don't feel like any less of fan just because you can't go on opening night. I certainly can't. I also imagine that some people can't go at all because of commitments to other things or because they're too embarrassed to. It's good to support the move in theaters. But there's nothing bad you can do except pirate the movie/see it without paying or anything like that.
  2. That's heartbreaking. I'd only ever pay to see the film. I never pirate stuff.
  3. No, I didn't. I'm in England. Did she anything else about it? Or is that just it?
  4. If it does really well, I can see it getting a >70% on Rotten Tomatoes and a moderately good performance at the box office. Although in all likelihood, I think the movie will be in the 40-60% range and just break even. That's okay because all the profits from toys and merchandise would ultimately make it profitable. I can't see it doing that badly either way. I'm not sure how critics will react to it. The show has received a decent enough reception. Perhaps the critics might be pleased if they come in with the lowest possible expectations, much like many of us did when we first watched the show. I guess only time will tell.
  5. Can't you just tell them you're going to the movies? If they asked, you could just tell them about a different movie if you're really embarrassed about it. Or maybe you could go on bus to the cinema if you can't drive there without them? If you absolutely want to tell them, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Just say that you like the show. Accentuate that you think it's a lot better than the previous generations and that it's one of the few animated movies coming out with 2D animation. They might tease you a bit, but if they're reasonable, they shouldn't have any major issue with it. Really it's no worse than you going to see Frozen or Moana or any DIsney movie.
  6. I don't know. I guess I'm just drawn to the show because it contains a refreshing lack of cynicism, the characters are relatable and the world of Equestria is somewhere I could get lost in. It's very cute and a lot better than something you would expect from an cartoon called My Little Pony, much less a show primary aimed towards little girls. Plus the community surrounding it is pretty cool and they create tonnes of amazing content! I guess my reasons for liking the show aren't quite as...philosophical. Not that there's anything wrong for liking the show for reasons like that.
  7. I know it would be a complete rip-off, but an episode which explores Twilight's emotions (represented by each of her friends) like that would be a really neat idea for an episode!
  8. I'd like for the 3D platformer ("collectathon") genre as a whole to make a resurgence. People see these types of games as being dated after the 90s, but I still think there's tonnes of potential for them. I love games such as Spyro the Dragon, Banjo-Kazooie and anything by Rare, really. I can't believe Microsoft would just let them go to waste seeing as they're sitting on great franchises like Banjo and Conker's Bad Fur Day. Luckily, we're seeing somewhat of a resurgence with games like Yooka-Laylee and Super Lucky's Tale. I really hope this trend can continue. Gaming today is too saturated with shooters.
  9. Ooh, they should get me to produce, direct, write and star in the inevitable meme movie!
  10. Nah, the show probably would have survived for a few seasons and been commercially successful without bronies by virtue of catering well to its target audience. I'm pretty sure young girls have always liked cute, colourful unicorns and are always going to ask their parents to buy toys of them. The real question is whether the show would have lasted this long and got movie without bronies. It's hard to say. It's true that FiM is probably the longest running MLP animated series. I don't know if I'd say that this is explicitly because of bronies, but I'd say the show's success among adults helped sustain it. Unlike kids, we have more disposable income to spend on toys/merchandise. That's got to count for something!
  11. I started watching the show at age 16 back in 2011. That was during season 1 and the inception of the brony fandom. I lost interest for a few years after season 3, but I got back into it somewhat recently. I'm 22 now (nearly 23). Not sure if that counts as really young though. I'm pretty sure most people here started watching the show in their teens and early twenties.
  12. Ooh, cool toys and stuff! I don't think they'll be in the UK though. I certainly do!
  13. Just kidding. I actually lean towards the libertarian left side of the political spectrum. But everybody is still a Nazi except for me. (Just kidding again in case anybody thinks I'm being serious.)
  14. In the odd chance that they can create something completely new and better than FiM (unlikely), then I would be fine retiring G4. The show has had a good run and I'd hate to see it become a shadow of its former self like The Simpsons became. But a safer option might be to create a spin-off series since this show has acquired so many fans. Perhaps they could set it decades into the future with new characters like a new Mane 6? That could work quite well. You would no longer have to be up to date with everything in G4 so that newbies can easily jump in, but all the older fans can catch all the referencing and instantly be familiar with the setting. Whether they create a spin-off or completely reboot the show, they can create a new art style and do some really new things with it!
  15. I'd imagine sea ponies are like chimeras/hybrids of fish and mammals. They probably have mammal traits like endothermy and milk production, and fish traits like gills and stuff. Sort of similar as to how Griffins are chimeras of birds and mammals. I'm more interested to see if the male sea ponies get "pregnant" like seahorses and pipe fish do. The females transfer their eggs in the male's pouch and he fertilizes them, provides them with food/oxygen and then gives birth to newborn seahorses after the eggs hatch. I think it's a part of seahorses having a female biased OSR, in which females compete over males and assume a role similar to the male sex in most species. Biology can be very weird. Live Science I doubt we'll explicitly see something like that. So I'm not expecting that anymore than I'm expecting Marlin in Finding Nemo to change into a female fish (clownfish are actually protandrous hermaphrodites). But maybe a wink and a nod to seahorse breeding habits would be pretty cool!
  16. I'd be okay with it. I really love the movies shift in art style. But it would most likely make the show's budget go through the roof!
  17. Well, the purpose our lives in a biological context is to ensure the survival and proliferation of our genes. That's pretty much the intrinsic goal of all organisms in the natural world. But I think it's up to you to find any deeper meaning than that, whether that's through philosophy, philanthropy or religion. So basically any other meaning of life is most likely subjective. Personally I just want to learn about the world and try to benefit the world and society in any way that I can.
  18. Yooka-Laylee and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I played them side by side. I love Collectathons. I wish they made more of them.
  19. I don't think it would be Pinkie Pie's favourite genres of music. I can see her preferring pop music. But Pinkie Pie might like some rap music with R&B in it. I can also see her liking Will Smith's music, like in that Fresh Princess of Friendship video. However I don't think Pinkie would take to gangster rap or anything too dark or cynical.
  20. Probably the standard stuff. Maybe some deleted scenes, animatics, behind-the-scenes stuff, concept art, models and perhaps a commentary by the cast and crew. That would be cool.
  21. As others said, a PG rating doesn't mean that much these days. You can basically expect anything more risqué than The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure to get a PG rating. The Nostalgia Critic explains it the best. I was actually expecting something along those lines. From what we've seen, it will have at least some some mild fantasy violence and peril.
  22. The only thing that's analogous to "race" in My Little Pony is probably 'kinds.' Pegasi, Unicorns and Earth ponies could be seen as the show's equivalent of different races. Ironically, the different kinds of ponies probably have more basis in biology than human conception of races because being of a specific kind of pony in the show grants you different powers, abilities and even appendages. Most scientists will tell you that "race" is a social construct and not a valid biological taxon or group. Not that people don't look different and are more likely to posses specific traits in different places in the world, but scientists often prefer to group humans using things like ethnic groups, haplogroups and clines instead of by race. As for Equestria Girls, I think the choice to make them multi-coloured like in the show was a deliberate choice to stave off controversy. People tend to be really hung up about things like representation of different races. Just look at all the arguments that occurred prior to Equestria Girls when fans created humanized versions of the Mane Six. I don't think the characters in Equestria Girls are supposed to conform to any specific race. It was probably a smart move from a business perspective because it matches each character with their respective pony form and it doesn't risk alienating anybody. So my best guess is that the humans in the world that Twilight visited don't identify by any race. They're all just human.
