Evil Zone (Fūjin Ryōiki Erutsuvāyu in Japan), a fighting game released in 1999, had some great themes for their characters. Here's one of them:

Also, Shadow of the Colossus. That game, as epic and astonishing as it was, had a grander soundtrack:

DiRT-2, Motorstorm1 and the Burnout games have an awesome soundtrack if you are into rock/alternative music ;)

Original video game soundtracks?

I have to go with Metal Gear and Final Fantasy here :)

Kudos to everyone who said The Legend of Zelda series, because I have to agree with them.

This song sums up my childhood pretty well!

Also, anhonourable mention has to be Fallout 3. There's some incredible tracks in that game that really help to set up the atmosphere.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned before, but I have been listening to Mother 3's Soundtrack all day today and I love it!

Even Battle Against the Masked Man which although made my ears bleed is bringing back wonderful memories of one of the greatest games I've ever played!

Oh God, I don't wanna have to make like 50 posts, so I'll just list some off: Halo 2, LoZ: Orcarina of Time, Bomberman 64, Goldeneye 64, Halo 3, Doom 3, Mario 64, ohman it goes on and on.

But probably my most favorite game OST is the one for Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (which is also my favorite game ever, I musta played it over 30 times all the way through by now.) I like the soundtrack so much I actually ordered the CD version off the internet!

I love video game music. Including both MP3s and direct rips (.miniusf, .nsf, .gym, .gbs, etc.) I have the soundtracks to over 70 games.

One of my more recent favorites is from Ys: Oath of Felghana.

In particular, I'm crazy about the YM2612, or OP2N, the soundchip used for the Sega Genesis. Here's an example:

Aaaaah. So many! Someone's gotta post GoW 2 "Heroic Assualt". But it didn't make my top 2.

First, I'll go with a really obscure game just because I doubt anyone else will post it, but it's utterly fantastic!

This plays when you land the shuttle. It's really neat, because you've just finished the whole burning on reentry thing where the shuttle's engulfed in plasma on re-entry from hitting the Earth's atmosphere at the orbital velocity of 17,000 mph, or mach 27. Now you're gliding towards the runway from 90,000 feet at mach 2, following this specific trajectory; but the view is utterly breathtaking: There's these sweeping cloudscapes, the sky is solid black, with a blue haze of the sky below you, and all the while you can see for hundreds of miles around, and you can feel the majesty and awe of having just been in space for a week and traveled probably more than two million miles orbiting the Earth, to gently descend back into Earth's atmosphere and land...

But imagine whatever you like to it

Next is much more casual. I'm hard-split in-between the protoss and terran OST's for Starcraft 2, the protoss are about 20% cooler, but these are more casual, and I already posted a cool song, so:
