I think the designs for the Rainbow Powers was the only flaw I found.

I agree with what others said, about how Tirek's brother was never shown. Did they ever mention what his fate was? Tirek is still alive after thousands of years, why not his pony-loving brother?

I also wish the ponies that gave each key were there, but I suppose the rainbow montage was nice...

I'd say the fact that the princesses immediately knew about Tirek right after he appeared.

The Twilight window really bothered me. I mean the other princess knew that Tirek was coming there so why not destroy the window or just cover it up somehow? I know that is how the story progresses but he could have found out about Twilight some other way. Other than that the tragic killing of Golden Oaks Library. That was just uncalled for.

The ending was clearly rushed with the whole rainbow power thing, the crystal tree, and the song (Which wasn't anything special either).

 

To be honest, I don't really like the rainbow power transformations (The manes are done so poorly. They're way too large and flashy it makes them look ridiculous), and the crystal tree looks way out of place in ponyville. I think the writers over-exaggerated things quite a bit, but it's not a big deal and it totally did not ruin this amazing episode for me.

 I feel like this episode has been done before like 4 times...oh wait it has. A bad guy comes to town. check. Twilight fills all of the screen time. check. The ponies blow up the bad guy with a giant rainbow. check. And the other 5 ponies sit back and do nothing...and check.

 

Also although I thought the fight scene at the end was cool and all, it was kind of pointless, I mean come on we all knew Tirek  was going to hold the other 5 ponies ransom right from the start so what was the point of the fight scene anyway? He could of just walked up to twilight, with the captured ponies in tow, and just asked for the alicorn before the fight even began.

The ending. Gods i really didnt like this Deus Ex Machina ending. It was too convenient, too rushed and especially pretty dumb. Cmon rainbow powers?!?! They could have done something better.

I thought the visual transformation of the Mane 6 was completely toyetic. Besides, they looked kind of ridiculous like that. Their transformation into the Power Ponies was much less visually disturbing. I actually LIKED their looks as the Power Ponies.

Haha.  The banner at the top of the forum pages is less bothersome to me than the show-version. The banner gives the Rainbow Power colorations, but doesn't make their manes look all ridiculously funky! Still toyetic, but less overly-obnoxious about it. My favorite change to the characters in the finale was when Twilight had all the Alicorn powers and she gained a sparkly purple trail as she flew around.

Scorpan was mentioned only as a nod to Rescue at Midnight Castle. He didn't need to play a role in the episode, so the writers decided not to show him on-screen.

I have some problems with Discord just straightly locking the rest of the Mane 6 in the cage, especially considering his link to Fluttershy. It would've been very touching if Discord were to hide Fluttershy or if it turned out that the Fluttershy in the cage was a dummy conjured by Discord. He was already starting to have his doubts back at Canterlot.

Best episodes yet, but seriously writers. STOP WITH THESE TRANSFORMATIONS! The mane six are now the Crystal Breezy Elements of Rainbow Harmony with a species changing alicorn princess as their leader. Just keep them as simple pony folk.

While I enjoyed it, there were several issues that bothered me throughout the episode;

 

I realize that Twilight had to win because she's the main character, but I thought it was pretty stupid of Tirek to offer her friends in exchange for her and the princesses magic when he could have just eaten it-especially since he had Discord's chaos magic at that point.

 

I was also taken off-guard by the fact everyone was surprised by Discord's betrayal when out of the Mane Six only Fluttershy had ever truly given him a chance, since they believed he would turn on them the first chance he got (so why was it such a surprise now?)-in the same vein, it seemed odd that a manipulator like Discord couldn't see what Tirek was doing with him until it was too late.

 

Also if Rainbow Power is the magic of friendship, then shouldn't Tirek still technically have been able to absorb it since he was powerful enough to absorb both Alicorn and Chaos magic at that point?

 

There is also the fact that Tirek was somehow aware of Princess Cadance's existence as he didn't show any surprise when confronting the Princesses, yet the revelation of Twilight was a shock to him.

 

If Tirek had been stealing magic from Unicorns since escaping from Tartarus back when Cereberus escaped in "It's About Time" in Season 2, then why were these incidents never reported? Surely, even if the afflicted were too weak there should have been friends, family members, or passers by to notice something odd.

 

As pointed out by Tirek, Twilight was pretty quick to forgive Discord for betraying them and while I could understand Fluttershy, Twilight claims to still be his friend-yet, she never cites a reason why such as "because friends forgive each other for their mistakes" or something along those lines would have made the scene easier to swallow.

As good as the whole story was, my only flaw was that the resolution (with Rainbow Power) was very rushed. I would've taken it better if it has been paced in more slowly.

Funnily enough, those designs are toned down versions of the forms they took in the episode. Their manes were larger and wavier in the show -- not unlike the Breezies' manes.

Tirek and Twilight were evenly matched and the only way to get the Alicorn magic was to force her to give it up. The implication is that the princesses are more powerful than every pony and Discord.

 

Rainbow magic is apparently so powerful that nothing can resist it or defend against it.

 

Saying "release him" was the perfect thing to say. Twilight was in no mood to make flowery speeches about friendship. She was pissed.

I could look at the flaws objectively, but this time, I'll make an exception. I chose "Other" for the two reasons:

1. The Rainbow Power are heinous! It's my most hated part of T'sK. To quote from a past thread:
   
   

   I said the same thing last time, and I'll say it again. All of them suck! In fact, I HATE most of them. The biggest problem with all of them is how busy they are. There are way too many intricate details that cram the design. One of the greatest components of their original designs is through their simplicity. By making them simple, the characters become memorable, and you can recognize them just by the shapes, eye color, style of hair, and color coordination. "Less is more" speaks volumes for the character designs (especially GOOD character design), and the Rainbow Power designs blatantly contradict that.
   
   If there are any that suck the least, it's Twilight (my choice) and Rainbow Dash.

   • Twilight is the simplest. Previously, I said I would've chosen that one if the flashing white stars didn't interfere. The stars are missing, and it presents her more professionally. If you remove the markings, change of her cutie mark, and use an off white with a peach color and instead of yellow, it would look decent.
   • Of all the RP designs that blend the colors best, it's Dash. From the hooves to the muzzle, wings, and cutie mark, the little designs aren't as loud as the others. If there's one thing about the wings I'd change, get rid of the red and orange; leave behind the yellow, green, blue, and purple to complete the wings. The warm colors should accentuate, not dominate.

    

2. Twilight's castle isn't as bad as the Rainbow Power, but it has no feel of home into it. It borrows the jagged edges from the Tree of Harmony and has the colors, shading, and angles at the Crystal Empire rather than the old-town, community atmosphere of the Golden Oaks Library. Inside, it looks very incomplete and very cold with the jagged edges and dark colors.
