general Your Biggest Peeve?

I don't like how people tend to be encouraged to be overly proud and/or talking themselves up over nothing. I wish society encouraged people to be more humble.

How society tends to cause people to become Willfully Ignorant over everything they do or say at Life, encourages people to live in their safety bubble, and glorifying Hypocrites. Really gets me peeved up to the point of losing my sanity.

The sheep mentality - ''believe as we do, look as we do, approve as we do, condemn as we do" and you are 'cool'. A society of conformists is grotesque, and dangerous.

  • Evangelicals who choose to be against equal rights. So I should be offended by my own existence in this society (being that I'm a pansexual with gender issues), but not by a religion that's killed thousands if not millions of people by its "god's will"? I'd be far more likely to be offended by the latter than the former, just saying...

  • Sheep who will listen to whatever the corporate media tells them, and not even question it for one second. I was one of these sheep once, but I gained a brain. I agree completely with @Mirage77 in saying that this part of society is dangerous, and has proved itself to be here in America over the past 50 years. Yes, America, STOP LISTENING TO FOX, CNN, ABC, MSNBC. PLEASE STOP IT. YOURE ONLY KILLING YOUR BRAIN CELLS BY DOING THAT.

  • Blanket Statements. Oh really so if I have homosexual tendencies (which I do, most definitely), I'm automatically a Satanist? Yeah okay. (The problem with that is that I'M NOT A SATANIST)... Also, another one so a Christian doesn't decide to be offended by this post. Christians are not all hateful people. That's been spread around, though have to say there's a bit of truth to it nonetheless, between all the people SLAUGHTERED BY THE MASSES by Christians. Nonetheless, not everyone that is of any denomination of christianity agrees with that, so that's why that blanket statement is pretty far from the truth. After all, most organized religion does that stuff.

This!

Tribalism without the willingness to question the values or beliefs that you adopt drives me batty. I prefer a sense of independent dynamism personally.

I understand why what is popular is what is generally accepted, but it gets old fast. Many now-popular ideas were once odd and unacceptable at some point in time, like women wearing pants lol. Just gets frustrating seeing how quickly people jump to defend the common customs instead of considering things for themselves first.

Also, along the same vein, customs that are followed for no reason other than "someone a really long time ago decided that..." Sucks to see horrible things happening to others all in the name of tradition with no other basis :/

When someone walks into your room to do whatever, then leave without closing the door.

No matter how many times you tell them to close the door, they never learn.

I have many: Bad grammar, wasting food, words and phrases that don't mame sense, the US date system of month/day/year.

I think people are mistaking big issues for pet peeves. I think of pet peeves as small, inconsequential things.

Being uneducated in any first world nation. I do not care how poor you are there is almost no reason to lack an education in this day and age. We have free computers and books at at school and public libraries, We have so many charity programs its insane. Yet people will buy a new smart phone that accesses the greatest wealth of information this world has ever known and do nothing but watch cat videos and porn.

Then they complain about not being educated because their schools are bad......

People who judge others because they think a label defines them.

"He must be in a gang because he's young, has an accent and is from a bad side of town I've never been to.", "She must hate horror movies and loud music because she's shy.", "You listen to rock music? Clearly an emo who want's to kill themselves.", "A girl who's a tomboy? Must be a lesbian and/or had bad parenting."

I don't even... :/

This one's pretty specific. But hypocrisy when defending a character. I've seen so many people defend one characters actions and criticize anothers, even if they did the same thing. It's absurd, I could never do that.

This was beautifully written lol, but seems so very true. Of all the things in the world anyone could be doing, many seem content to pop open their cellphone and busy themselves by staring at entertaining clips with no educational value :( not saying those people are stupid, but its a sad thing that its a big deal if someone decides to read a book or prefers any other activity besides being glued to a phone or computer!

It has more to do with corporations and those people in power (The Richest of the Rich 1%) who live up to the ideal where Humanity MUST be entertained and distracted constantly to make a living on their end regardless of it being honest or dishonest. We live in a world where the Entertainment Industry has become our #1 priority over everything else including our standards of living to some extent because none of us will stand up to the reality that Life can be BORING. Everything else MUST come secondary or even worse BE TRIVIAL according to the media's logic.

I wish it was the other way around where Entertainment should come secondary while Important Matters to make progress within the civilization e.g. Standards of Living, Promoting Charitable Organizations and Economic Growth should be the #1 priority.

Sadly, that reality is only a dream and wishful thinking on my end. >_>

I have seriously redone my entire speech pattern to avoid this. You'd be amazed how much of an impact it has. You do it so often you just don't think about it.

This is not the place for debate so I will simply say that I disagree with such a negative view of the average person's self-education. My experience contradicts that with people pulling out hitherto unknown and in-depth knowledge about many obscure facts about literature and history.
