Most Memorable Forum Experience

Recommended Posts

Something's been a pondering in me for quite a while. What's your most memorable forum experience? It can be anything. A funny shenanigan, a very memorable post, or even simple private messaging between friends. Doesn't have to be just from MLPForums either.

Back in September 2012, only 2 months after I joined, I started going to the GCT. It was a lot of fun.

Then I realised I wasn't really well-liked there, so I left, and now it's dead, so meh.

Sorry for my naivety in acronyms, but what is GCT? It sucks not to be liked either. I had that before. I was on a Football Manager forum at one point, but most of the members were die-hard British drinkers, and I simply couldn't fit in as a Canadian playing on the MLS.

Well, My most memorable experience on forums was on Virtualteen forums actually, back in January.

It was when I posted some sort of stupid thing about Rep points, which were supposed to be ways  to manipulate somebody's reputation on the forums (thus the name Reputation Points.) More specifically that it was a "virtual penis" because it was shown in a bar (that would GROW with an increase in Rep points), and I didn't like the system really.

So, after I posted that an anonymous admin (I knew who it was, actually) asked if I wanted that thread closed, and I said yes, because I thought it was a humiliating embarrassment, and nobody liked it.

This happened to me a few years ago so i don't remember the forum that it was on, but i was in an RP where your character could be killed as long as it made sense, I died about 8 posts in.

Getting chased across about 4 different skype-groups by Zoop for adding "oop" to the end of my name.

Absolutely priceless... it had fanart. :3

General Chat Thread. It's a thread in Forum Lounge where people just hang out and chat about random stuff, because we no longer have an actual chat like we used to.

On this forum, either the first April Fools, or when I started the "if this thread gets X posts in X days" fad :P

In general, when I started a humble little thread on the GameFAQs Golden Sun: The Lost Age board about some things I would add, remove and change for the third game. A few people posted their own ideas, and before we knew it, we were practically designed our own game. We discussed everything from detailing new stat and experience systems to designing tons of new enemy concepts to reworking psynergy (the series' magic system). It went on for a few months, and we had like 70+ pages of text. The a fucking mod came in and deleted it because "it was about the third game and this was the board for the second game". I politely explained that because the third game hadn't been announced yet, there wasn't aboard for it yet, and he basically said "then you should've made it on a different site. Oh, and now you get karma loss for arguing with a mod."

Which is the reason I started hating mods in general :P

Most memorable experience on this board? Probably dozens of silly, meaningless chats on people's Status Updates. I like rambling away a conversation to nothingness. ^^ But I also loved watching Princess Mononoke with a bunch of people who hadn't watched it before on the Friday Movie Night. That was pretty fun.

On other boards, I once had a really, really sweet guy who helped me through a tough time. I wish I knew who he was so I could thank him.

I think my most memorable forum experience would have to be the first time I joined my first Forum. It was on a different one, (( I forget what it's called.. :P )) and I had no idea what to do. This whole group of people though, they all helped me and guided me around, and sure enough, became my best friends on that Forum. They also eventually introduced me to MLP Forums.

Hmmm this is a really tough question. Probably the time me and this other guy went back and forth on rate song and post another for like 30 minutes. Also the first time I got on this forum and everyone was so nice to me was really memorable.

A mod-hating member who became a mod? Here, my admiration for posting that sentence. :P

And for me, hmmm, I guess that was the day Equestria Girls was released. As soon as it looked like everyone here had seen it and when I watched it myself, it felt all so strange. I didn't have the highest expectations, but I was someway optimistic since I'd seen the second trailer.

But I was disappointed.

While the reactions thread was flooded with comments of the people who liked it, I was just sitting there and thought "That can't be happening." So I wrote my first review while I fumed at the movie. Not a good idea. Everyone seemed to be excited and happy and I was just like "Dammit, why can't I like it? Why does it have to be so bad?"

So I rewatched it the next day and began to find it at least acceptable. Liked it even. Out of being sorry, I wrote a second review, but was still a bit crestfallen because I wrote the first review.

But then I had a little chat with Zygen and I felt way better.

My most memorable forum experience was on another forum about five years ago. There was a thread by this one guy asking for advice on how to fix a problem with his relationship. The first few posts were normal, then out of nowhere it derailed into a flurry of Phoenix Wright gifs and pics by this guy who was switching between three or four accounts having an argument with himself, Phoenix Wright style. It went on for at least ten pages until the thread was locked. Weirdest but greatest derail ever.

The Equestria TV's Friday Movie Nights...  I hope they finish fixing that soon, because I can't wait to start doing that again.  It's actually how I found this site!  The day before the first day of spring, which I knew to be Winter Wrap-Up day, I searched Google for TODAY IS WINTER WRAP-UP DAY.  Unfortunately, not many people seem to know that.  I did find a link to the Friday Movie Nights thread on this site (which I had never heard of before) and I came signed up to the forums.  I had no idea what I was doing then.  But I do now, and the movie nights are still the most fun thing involving the internet I have ever done!  Yes, it beats Minecraft.

I have a few from my first forum, which I actually can't remember the name of. That was a really cool forum, the most memorable when me and some other people played "forum Big Brother" which was, obviously, a forum version of the popular television show. Tons of threads and PMs were made...good times. That forum is gone now, unfortunatley, and no one archived it. So every thread I posted and every discussion I had is gone.

From this forum, it would probably be the status breaking shenanigans.

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

Here I'd say it was when I was basically a brand new user, posted a very tired and dumb thought as a status update. I signed back on later to find that the founder of this place liked it and said I should make a full post about it, basically just copy and paste it.

Of course it went over as well as could be expected, until they came with evidence that I was correct.

Other forums I'd say it was the rare occasion that one help thread on an obscure large format printer was flooded with actual helpful answers and troubleshooting. Nothing too exciting, but I was very excited that I got pages of helpful posts, instead of 90% being of the "did you try unplugging it, I don't know anything about this machine" type like I usually did.

My most memorable moments here was during our big event, The World Cup RP where we get to support our own teams as well as the other team. Thus it was one of the main reason why I chose to become a RP staff for this forum. I remember coming in not knowing how to fit in nor bother trying to anyway. The whole event happen and I was grateful for being part of Team Moon where it made me feel I have reason and a place to be. I had RP with other members that also made me feel welcomed but the world cup event was the one that got me realized that RP can bring people as a whole and make new friends along the way. Another memorable experience is fooling around with members at the Game forum. We can be really goofy there- which it's also a place where I met some few good friends there.

In my very first forum, which was poorly managed, I got overly long periods of trolls. Thing is, I never engaged them myself, but always observed their antics, and they never ceased to make me laugh. I’ve seen of everything: from annoying character role plays, to putting being on bed with a female user as their location  :D. I suppose they rubbed me some that trolling to me considering certain…. “Incidents” :oh_golly:

Writing in group RPs such as “Transformation Time!”, “A New Kingdom”, “Ambition to Ascention”, and “The Town That Friendship Forgot” were a lot of fun, even though those groups have disbanded now, they were fun and memorable while they lasted. They also are the reason I have a couple of the forum friends I have now. :coco:

My early days of PMing with my forum friends were also very memorable. The chats were fun and they also allowed me to grow closer to my forum friends. I’ll always keep the PMs for memories, even if one day none of them get used anymore.

Most memorable was probably the chats we had on the old WPCC lounge here. Most of the regulars other than myself and maybe one or two others aren't active here anymore. That's life I guess, but I can still look back on it fondly.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.
