How can people say we are alone in the universe.

I used to wonder the same thing... but, this video has made me understand doubt in life existing elsewhere in the universe-

Though yes, we ARE tiny. :wau: It's nice to think about it sometimes... to see how insignificant even the greatest problems in our lives can be.  -_-

So you don't believe in extraterrestrial life?

I'm not shure what the point you are making is.

I'm just saying that there are reasons why some people don't believe in extraterrestrial life, that's all. I don't believe in it; but, I haven't ruled out the possibility that aliens do exist, either. I'm just being an annoying little pony that doesn't like siding with one side or the other, I guess ^^

I remember when my science teacher showed our class that very same planet / star size video, i've been interested in space ever since i saw VY canis majoras on the projector screen. (Just to add the the debate going on, i believe there are other intelligent life forms out there somewhere)

People who seem convinced that aliens don't or can't exist make me laugh. We are one grain of sand in the desert that is the universe.

The chances of aliens existing aren't small, the chances of us being the only living organisms in the universe is astronomically small.

Honestly, people who can say with a straight face that planet Earth is the only source of life in the universe, even as an opinion, that's immensely arrogant as well as ignorant.

Just because we have not been contacted by other life forms doesn't mean they don't exist. Our galaxy is 100,000 - 120,000 light years across. It is scientifically impossible to travel at the speed of light. There are An estimated 100 billion galaxies in our universe. Even if life would form in 1 in 100,000 galaxies there would Still be 1 million galaxies with life in them. We may never contact other life forms because of the giant space and time gaps.

Edit:

There are around 300 billion stars in our Milky Way galaxy.

The odds of life existing are slim, but even a tiny percentage of space is huge so I'd bet there's life out there somewhere.  Only problem is, we're unlikely of ever coming into contact.

We're really tiny so the odds of us bumping into life are really small, but life is out there somewhere.

I first saw this video maybe 6 years back or so. I'm glad you've posted it.

here's all I have to add:

What do we know … of the world and the universe about us? Our means of receiving impressions are absurdly few, and our notions of surrounding objects infinitely narrow. We see things only as we are constructed to see them, and can gain no idea of their absolute nature. With five feeble senses we pretend to comprehend the boundlessly complex cosmos, yet other beings with wider, stronger, or different range of senses might not only see very differently the things we see, but might see and study whole worlds of matter, energy, and life which lie close at hand yet can never be detected with the senses we have.

With mankind's inability to send spacecraft outside the inner Oort Cloud let alone send a man past the moon, who the hell are we to say we are the only ones among a immeasurable amount of space?

There has to be a way. Maybe I could try calling up the Doctor with my timie wimie cellphone to use the TARDIS. Lol

Small? We are almost nothing. xD

I hope we'll eventually be able to travel through space (by that I mean exploring new galaxies), because we still don't know anything about the universe, our world...

Maybe there are things in space that surpass our imagination. Who knows? Maybe there's an epic space battle somewhere else right now?

Yeah I love space.

I enjoy thinking about the unfathomable size of the universe. It does make me feel small in a way, but in another way it reminds me how special our planet is. While I have no doubt life exists elsewhere in the universe, the vast majority of it is incapable of sustaining life. Our tiny ball of dirt is one of relatively few places in the universe where complex lifeforms exist and thrive. So while we, in terms of size, are very small, we're pretty significant in other ways.

Despite the low odds, I really do hope we run into life elsewhere in the galaxy at some point.

I believe it's a possibility, just as I believe it's possible that God does actually exist, and that the multiverse hypothesis is true...

I will not believe anything until hard evidence is shown.

Indeed! Even the Earth itself is relatively small, and so is the sun, our solar system, and even our galaxy.
