How do/did your parents discipline you?

wasnt so much a spank than it was a slap from my Mum. her target zones were shoulder, waist, upper arm and just back in general. always got the old "go to your room". which tbh thinking about it now, wasnt the worst place to be sent to. got a console ban, PC ban, games were confiscated. But if anything the worst was and still is the stern talking to at the kitchen table. Literally the worst thing ever.

or and just being screamed and shouted at when i did a bad thing. That sticks with you for life. I still cant talk back to my Mum today because she has the louder voice x.x luckily I have my own house though.

Punishments were Mum's department. Dad only ever told me off verbally. I listen to him LOL.

My mother was kinda strict if I did something bad. I got the belt if I went to the principal's office at school or if I back talked towards my mom. My mouth got me in trouble a bit when I was a kid. :sealed:

I was either spanked or whipped. I didnt get in trouble much, so it was rare i got punished. One time, my grandpa was watching me while everyone else went on a cruise. Got him mad and oh boy did i get it. It was as that moment i realized old people are FAAAAAAR more worse than younger people. That can did not feel good on my backside.-

When my step dad came into our family, he would take everything about me seriously.

If I didn’t go to sleep by 8:30, he would beat me up with a sturdy belt.

If I didn’t read a book today, he would confiscate all my entertainment and make me read for even longer period of time (and I used to complain about how 45 minutes was too long for me).

If I steal anything back that he confiscated from me, he would try corner me and beat me physically or try to kick me out of the house.

If I didn’t get good grades on my report card, he would kick me out of the house.

and my mother couldn’t do anything about it until she decided to abandon him and had us move out of the home while he was gone at the casino in Vegas. I’m glad I’m pretty close to my graduation now because those years are now long gone to me and I’m glad to be free from him. As far as how my mother would discipline me, it’s not even close to how my step dad does. She only disciplines me by yelling at me or by telling me to do thing for her (basically helping her around the house).

When I was really young, timeouts lasting as many minutes as my age. I was pretty well-behaved, so that was all it took. On occasion, they also used low-grade physical punishment (which didn’t help).

Starting when I was 7, if I didn’t finish all my schoolwork, I was made to sit in a blue child-sized deck chair from 6am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

This continued until I was about 9, when they instead made me do the majority of the chores over the weekend instead.

From 10 on, confiscation was the main tactic. Didn’t do what I asked? I’ll just take your laptop for an arbitrary amount of time. Anything that could be taken to be a transgression was leapt on as an opportunity to take my stuff. Eventually, I figured out where they were keeping my things, so I sneaked into my parents’ room every night and took my stuff back.

Eventually, I stood up to my mother when I was 15 and my dad, my sister and I left the house 4 months later.

Since then, I’ve been in charge of myself.

Luckily I only ever really misbehaved once, well at least so my dad thought. So HE SLAMMED MY FIRST NINTENDO DS AGAINST A TREE and then hit me.

Luckily I never went through that again. I was a pretty much a silent, well-behaved child. Apparently I was the least annoying kid to deal with aside from the fact I wet my bed into my teens and they had to tie my shoes until I was 10.

I'm bad at remembering when I was younger but I think I remember a time when I was put in the corner. I definitely remember multiple times when my stepfather beat my sisters and me several times with a stick and maybe belts, though my mother didn't allow that after a while since he left red marks (Still was allowed to do that to his own kids, my half siblings, though he barely whipped his daughter and over whipped his son, showing obvious favoritism. He's not living with us anymore though). Nowadays, I'm threatened with taking my electronic device away, though it never happens since I eventually do what I'm told.

Oh wow, when I acted out of line, I got the hiding of a lifetime, especially from my dad. Luckily, it didn't escalate to using a belt or a wrench or anything like that, as some people I know had to deal with, so I consider myself lucky in that regard.

Well my parents used the good ol’ tried and true art of the spanking up until I was about 12, but they never used a belt or anything unnecessary like that. I usually got the fly swat or stick by my mom and my dad would hand spank me. :sealed:

Other forms of punishment they used were raised voices, or actual yelling (only ever by my mom though...she has quite the temper)

Threats to take away my tv or computer time for a while, or actually doing so. And standing in the corner for a good 10-15 minutes.

Either way, I was for the most part a well behaved kid except for a few cases where I rebelled against the household rules or something but honestly my smart mouth and tendency to speak my mind was the main reason I got in trouble ever.

Grounding me from sweets, pop, TV, video games, etc. I remember the last time I got grounded was back when Animal Crossing first came out. My sister and I were not being too nice to each other in taking turns with the game. So my mom grounded...me and me only. So I got to sit and watch my sister play Animal Crossing. ='(

The time out method. Basically restricting me from doing certain things. Usually it would be because of the anger meltdowns I would sometimes have and sometimes still have. My parents clearly didn't understand why I did\do that stuff. I guess that was better than being hit though, that would have served no purpose.

Primarily timeout/grounding, but they withheld things like video games, made us kneel for a few minutes, among other things. If my brother and I really fucked up, my mom would whack us one. But spanking was extraordinarily rare. I don't get much discipline these days considering I'm in my mid-30s. XD

Time outs, usually when I was young. In my teen years? A week without borrowing my mom's car seemed like an eternity!

(I still think this was a bit much for a speeding ticket! I was not drinking or anything. Just in a hurry to get home.)

Outside of the occasional yelling, I never really received anything. Save for what I refer to as "The Silence". There were times when I did something wrong and was blatantly caught. I never received any punishments or lectures. Just absolute silence with no challenge to what I did. My conscience would do all the work and I would correct myself through guilt and shame to the point of WANTING to be punished to prove that I've learned my lesson. Yet nothing gets said and no punishments come. Which I suppose is a punishment in itself.  :sunny:

My parents would have these long, tortuous talk sessions with both me and my brother (always separately) where they would sit us down for 2-3 hours and lecture us on our perceived bad behavior. They would often compare us to each other or our friends, and we would walk away sniveling messes. I adore my parents, and I don't disagree that I did things wrong as a child, but this was way too long for a kid. Way to intense, and it was pure misery. It left me feeling bad about myself every single time.
