The afterlife, what do you think happens?

Well this is an easy question. My grandma's friend once died, what they did was make a proper funeral, and buried her 6 feet under the ground.

What do you think happens when we die? Let me list out the steps: 1st. We fall to the ground. 2nd. We stat to lose all of our senses. 3rd. We lose time. 4th. Last memory. 5th. Darkness (death).

But... What happens after that? Is it an endless pit of darkness? Do we go to hell? Do we go up to the sky above the clouds where golden gates open for us A.k.a Heaven? Or, do we move on to another dimension?

Yes, Dimensions. I think that when we die, we move onto another parallel dimension and start a new. Almost like reincarnating but not in the same dimension.

Let me explain.

When we die, we go through the process of dying that I listed. Once dead, our universe moves to another dimension where it can experience new things. We each have our own universes; constantly playing, planning, and moving about with one another. Example: Us. If you meet a person on the forums, their universe is seeping into yours, when they move on or "die", that's there universe saying: "Goodbye, I'm moving on now." Then they move on to the next dimension. You can take into comfort (in my theory) that they're not really dead, they're just doing something else.

What people morn over is (to me) just a shell, the shell that showed us how life in this dimension works. Then the shell grows old and breaks apart, like, a backpack, it carries your books like the shell that carries your universe. The backpack soon fall apart because it's used through most of it's time.

So please, if someone you know is dying, then just remember this: They're doing something else.

What do you think happens when we die?

My beliefs are pretty similar to yours, but also with differences.

I'm a very firm believer in reincarnation, it would be impossible to change my mind about that. Where one is reincarnated will vary. Some may reincarnate in to a different human, and earthly animal, or maybe even an unearthly animal such as a dragon or a kirin. They may also reincarnate in to a being in a completely different dimension that is unknown and unreachable by us humans.

I will watch this thread for a while as I am curious what others will think.

I don't see any reason to believe that our consciousness is anything more than that generated by the interacting chemicals in our brain. So when the brain ceases to function, our consciousness is no more.

As much as I'd personally love to believe in some kind of an afterlife (more along the lines of reincarnation, NOT the eternal afterlives imagined in many religions, as I think they'd all be bad), I really don't understand why so many try to see something more than what's there.

It's curiosity. We are never satisfied in what we have now. It's human nature. So we go above and beyond, have theories about things, and start to question more and more.

Personally, I believe that we cease to exist when we die. Our consciousness is no more and as a result, it's like we never existed in the first place. I wouldn't mind believing in reincarnation, but I personally can't see it.

You remember what it was like before you were born? Well, that's what you're going to feel when you die. Nothing. You will return to the non-existence from whenst you came.

The moment your brain stops processing sensory data, you go bye-bye.

No one knows for sure although there have been people who have "died" and came back to life. Most just don't remember seeing anything and it just felt like time had passed, similar to how it feels when you sleep. There are a few people who have claimed to have "seen hell or heaven" but they're probably lying. Why would any sort of God let these people get a second chance by showing them hell but not others? I highly, HIGHLY doubt in any sort of reincarnation into another body. Any kind of eternal paradise or hell is also unlikely. We probably just die. But we'll never known until we finally kick the bucket

When we die we just cease to exist.

A poetic way of putting it, which I love, is that "We return to the stars from which we were first forged."

So I started writing and got a bit carried away: wall of text incoming.

You die. You're body no longer is able to function, so it stops. You're memories, feelings, personality... everything is wipes clean because you're dead. They never existed: they were a side effect of the complex chemical reactions taking place inside your body and since it isn't functioning any more, they no longer exist.

You decay: rot away. The billions of atoms that you are composed of break apart: they are recycled by the earth: find their way into the water, the air: you become a part of everything. This doesn't matter to you because your consciousness no longer exists: the complex chemical reaction that it once was becomes a small part of several thousand others: some parts become new life: some become part of existing life.

You will never see again: you'll never think or feel: laugh, cry or smile: you cant, because you aren't you any more. You're a part of the universe: a tiny fragment of reality: just as you were before you were born. A piece of a million different lives that will all end in the same way.

And, because of the laws of probability theres a chance: a tiny chance so small that nobody knows if its even possible: that one day those same billions of atoms will align just right to create a new being: a new you. But it wont be you, because you will be gone. Because no one person is alone: we are all part of the universe. We come from the universe and ultimately we all return to it.

Science is beautiful, when you think about it. It's a kind of reincarnation: we are all one constant entity, on a cycle of life and death that will never end so long as it exists. People will always want to find other hopes to latch on to - but I cant see any reason to hope for anything other than what I can see when what I see is something so perfect. We are the Earth, the air and water: we are diamonds and stardust and everything else that exists: life is a perception and without it, are we any less?

We give up our selfish hold on the parts that are 'us' and return to being part of the greater whole: it's the ultimate sacrifice that we see in adventure stories: and we all make it one day. We give up our own lives so that others can live.

Then what happens after death? Are we just stuck in oblivions darkness? @Scarlet Letter We just have to see for your selves.

When we die, we are sucked into Celestia's nostrils. At least that's what I want. I want to be in her warm, moist, motherly nostrils.

That's funny but I don't want to be in her nose... I want to be somewhere else.....................

We decompose, slowly or quickly depending on how our bodies are treated post death. I think we will just simply experience nothing because our brain ceases to function. This line of thought gives me comfort, I don't have to worry about death because I won't be conscious to experience it or even register it. (Well, idealistically)

If I see a deity when I die, I think I'd actually be a little disappointed. I wouldnt mind a ghost afterlife or permanent dream afterlife though (as illogical as they are...)

I already told you. Nothing happens when you die. It's just like how nothing happened before you were born. You will feel the same way you did before your parents were born.

Your brain stops processing data, it stops taking data in. You're not stuck in oblivion's darkness, you're not stuck in heaven, you're not stuck in hell. You cannot be, because you don't exist.

I'm on the boat that nothing happens after you're dead. Everything ceases to exist for you.

It's not something we're comfortable with accepting, so we naturally tend to develop beliefs and devices that deny that all life ends in nothingness... There's no telling for sure what happens but this seems like the most likely thing. It's certainly the simplest solution.
