Are you going to college after high school?

Some people see it as a waste of time and money, others see it as a necessary requirement for success, and some people just don't have the money for it, even if they wanted to go.

 

What do you think about college? Are you planning on going to one? Do you think it's worth the investment?

I started going to college right after high school, I'm in my 4th year of college now. I think going to college is worth the investment, it's kind of hard to get a good job without a college degree.

I went to college straight out of high school. I think everyone should decide for themselves what to do with their lives. People should decide if college is right for them. I, personally, don't know why I'm here at college...but I am.

Does it count if I'm currently at college?  I personally find that it's a worthy investment, because it's where I learned everything about the field that I'm pursuing (computer science).  Without it, I would know virtually nothing.  Plus, you're really not going to get a halfway decent job in this field without a degree unless you've either done some pretty impressive projects on your own or you know the right people.

 

So yeah, college isn't right for everyone, but in certain fields you're probably going to need a degree.

Well it's the plan, the school system is a bit different in my country I don't want to explain. I think college is way too expensive and well there are plenty of other interesting opportunities out there. But at the moment, I guess college is the way to go. I'm not sure if it's worth the investment, I guess it will be since you should get a good job thanks to your education. But the problem is that there is a lot of unemployment for college graduates in my country and you're actually better off without it at the moment. Though you have to think about it differently, in the long term it will be worth it. I don't really know what I'm going to learn, since I'm not sure what I want to become but as long as it gives me a well paid job I'll be okay.

 

I'm a bit scared of college, since I don't really know if I'll belong there. At first I only wanted to, because of my allergist, he told me to pursue a career that is physically easy. I'll figure out what I want to do soon enough.

Well, since I am already in college, I guess that answers that question.

 

I find going to college to be worth it. It helps me improve on my skills and will also help me find a great job later on in life. Totally worth the money. At least for me it is.

Honestly, I graduated, and have no plans to ever attend college. I have a good job that I can grow in, getting trained on the big machines used in landscaping and such, something that most people don't get good training on, which can make me a valuable worker. I view college as useful if you know what you want to do for the rest of your life, if you aren't absolutely positive, you can waste thousands of dollars on something you end up hating, and I don't want that happening to me.

It depends on many circumstances, to some I think it's a very good decision, but I think many waste their time and money going to college, I personally am after I finish high school.

I dropped out to travel instead when I realized history would be a dead end as I'm not teaching material. No reason to continue wasting time and money; no regrets.

I'm in college right now and while I think it was a worthy investment for me, I know a few people who are doing quite well without going to college. It's not for everyone, but personally, I wouldn't be able to get the job I want without a Master's Degree, so I'll be in school for quite some time. Almost done with my Bachelor's though

I am sure as hell as I am going to college, nothing is going to stop my education! A college degree should insure a better job most of the time. Sure some people are not going to make it, but the thing is, at least you tried. Success is based on trying, if you don't try, what's the point?

I'm already in college. While it has been a great experience thus far, the work load can be kind of rough, as I am an Honours student. The food gets kinda boring, and I am going to be in deep debt by the time I'm done, and I am not sure that the debt is worth it anymore. College is cool, and has been enriching thus far, but my future after college is very iffy. The job market sucks. Even if you have a degree, many statistics and predictions point out that many of us college students will end up being home-bound for a while after graduating, working part time jobs and trying to keep up with payments.

 

However, don't let that discourage you! Like I said, college is a great place to make friends, and you learn loads of useful information. It is a kind of transition into how to live as an adult, where you need to learn how to budget the money you save over the summer, and how to deal with official financial business in dealing with loans and stuff. You definitely grow as an individual, and gain many useful tools to help you in life. I personally think it's going to be like this for me. It'll be rocky the first few years after I graduate, but after that, it will pay off in the long run.

 

Personally, I'm hoping my philosophical ideas somehow take off, and change the world while helping me through rough times.

 

But, definitely, college is worth it. Despite the challenges, I can tell it'll pay off in the end.

I don't really know yet. I don't know if I'm going to stay on in school till sixth form, or go to college for sixth form. Seriously I would love to stay in school, but if I go to college, there are so many more options for me if I go to college. Like I could take a combined A Level of English Literature and Language, however, I don't think I would be able to do that in school. I could also take Film Studies in college, I also wouldn't be able to do that in school. But if I go to college, I wouldn't be able to have my fantastic English teacher for A Levels.

I've done the math, and the place I want to go statistically cannot reject me. It's only a matter of money now, which shouldn't be that difficult. So, I see absolutely no reason not to go.

I have no regrets. College isn't too bad but it really sucks sometimes. You've got to stick with it. That degree is well worth it in a society whose job market puts a high value on a college degree.

I have been set on going to college for a while now. Since I'm only in my first year of high school right now I still have a while to decide on that for sure and I honestly don't know what career path I am going to take. Hopefully something in film/journalism. But I do plan to attend a four year college for whatever I m going to do with my life.

You bet I am. I actually got accepted to the school of my dreams last week (a specialized private university in Arizona) to take their unique degree program (Cyber Intelligence and Security). And by unique, I mean they're the only college that has it. Pretty cool, eh? And they're claiming that people who finish the degree get pretty much insta-hired by Facebook, Google, the CIA, the FBI, Homeland Security, or other countries.

yeah I am many people see my tattoos on my arm in school that I draw on myself with a sharpie and say I should go to college and become a tattoo artist or become a cartoonist or game desighner cause of my drawing and I could go to college for free and get a degree

I'm taking classes for this "Software Development Assistant" degree right now. Although I'm interested in it, if you want me to be honest, I don't care much for college itself nor do I want to go to a university. It's just not me.

I'm 21 and haven't been.

 

I'll take an online course in computer tech of some kind if I ever find one, but that's about it. I literally own the house I live in, and the local college here is questionable, and I can learn most of the skills I'm interesting in via self-teaching if I ever get off my ass.

 

I'd still like dig up an online course though.

I have already finished high school and I have no intention whatsoever on going to college. I would not be able to anyways even if I wanted to, which I don't. I really see no reason, despite how much American society builds it up. That probably makes me inferior to at least 70% of the fandom, but whatever.

I just got my BS in Applied Management and just started my MBA, but like the military, college isn't for everyone. I didn't go to college right out of high school because I wasn't "mature" enough. I joined the military and did some traveling and realized that most of the jobs I wanted required that little piece of parchment that stated that I had some higher education. So I finished my military requirements, took my educational benefits and buckled down. Honestly though depending on the field you want to be in will determine your path. Most of the things you learn on the job you can't really experience in the classroom i.e. management and leadership skills IMHO. Then again if you go for something like information technology or anything medical school is definitely the way to go. I'm not saying I have the most experience but I've been around for a bit long than most and I think a degree is worth the time and money but I respect the ones who don't go. It boils down to personal preference.

Just another quick thought, don't think you need higher education to be someone everyone should know. You are already someone I'd like to know education doesn't make you special or help you stand out it ultimately experience that gets you where you are going, so get out there and make yourself known the best way you know how.
