8 Years and counting - Happy Birthday MLPForums

October 3, 2011 .... less than a year after launch of the show ... a young man named Kurtiss and Feld0 launches this site. It’s easy to take things for granted, but if not for these wild eyed enthusiasts seeing a need for a forum based community in those early days of the fandom, a few lives would be different. Maybe not for most users, but for a few. 

 

With the show wrapping up this month, I think now is a good time to take a step back and consider how far you’ve come as individuals. Have you met any friends here? Had a fun time or two? Won a couple of tense debates? What were some of your favorite moments on here? 
 

Most of you know my own story by now, so I won’t make this about me. I do want you to also raise a glass to a user that is no longer here that you want to remember. This site was built on the words and personalities of many people who have left over the years. Some fell away from the site, some were hit my the life bus, some passed on. 
 

Take a second or two to remember those individuals today, those are whose voices still echo in these halls even today. Raise a cider to them and smile that there were once a part of this ridiculous yet fantastic group of nutcases

I joined this site nearly 6 years ago, and I'd be lying to say it hasn't been life changing. Not so much for me as others perhaps. I haven't found a potentially lifelong friend on here, haven't found myself in a situation where support from other users could have really helped out, haven't created a mind-blowing piece of work for thousands to see, or anything else so grand. But one of the things that makes this site so worthwhile, is the fact that it does offer that possibility for everyone, and we've seen it happen time and time again. This is a site where strangers can come together through a little kindness and their shared enthusiasm for MLP, and become part of something more. A community.

I've had my wins, and I've had my losses, but what keeps me going is how this place has been, and continues to be a wonderful outlet for creative thinking, and I look forward towards our future. So thank you to the founders, the moderators, admins, and of course the friendly userbase, former and current, for keeping the forums running, and making it what it is.

Happy birthday MLPF! This place has really been a great second home to me the past three years. I’ve met some really cool folks on here, including my boyfriend @Cyclone1066, who I’ve been with for nearly two years now.

MLP Forums has been a huge part of my life, and I’m so honored to now be a member of staff. MLPF and I have a funny relationship, truly.

I vividly recall the first few weeks I was active here, it was an experience like no other I had before. Perhaps it is simply due to the fact that I have not logged onto many other Forums, but who knows. Either way, my initial experience with the Forums was incredibly positive; the users where charming, the Forum Games were quirky and fun, and the Forums in general had a lovely atmosphere. I even enjoyed it enough to join the Staff for a time, which was a nice experience, as brief as it may have been.

Then there was a period beginning in, say, August of 2018. Many users were beginning to lose interest, including a few key user whom I enjoyed the company of quite a lot. Nevertheless, I stayed active; new faces were appearing quickly enough to keep me engaged, not to mention any amount of moderating I needed to tend to. That said, this period was likely the time when I enjoyed my time the least; tending to the Forums felt quite a lot like an obligation, rather than a fun activity. Thus, my interest was declining quickly. I even decided that I would depart the Forums completely, but of course, this decision did not last.

Once 2019 came, I believe this began a period of relaxation, so to speak. Though starting form this point, I decided to ultimately use the Forums less, I began enjoying it quite a bit more. Sure, my stay was infinitely less eventful than it had once been, but that was ultimately working to my benefit. Now that I was able to partake whenever I saw fit, it was becoming more and more enjoyable once again.

Now we are approaching the end of 2019, now that we have entered the long anticipated (at least by me) Halloween season. As I reflect on my time here, even though it may seem somewhat inconsequential now... it has been quite a wild ride, and has changed me more than most websites can boast. There have been a great many ups and downs along the way, but the journey has been worth it, in my eyes.

If I were to mention any users in particular whom I greatly appreciate, it would likely be @Wannabrony, @Captain Clark, @Tacodidra, and @Rarity the Supeme. These four have been amazing companions along the way, and my time here would not have been the same without them.

Ah, 8 years? Most of you already know by now that 2017 isn't my first year here but I actually found the forums back in 2013. It's been quite awhile and I've seen the place change a lot over the years. Lots of users have moved on and lots of new ones have appeared. Now, I will try to mention as many people as I can remember. Don't feel bad if I forgot you.

Thanks for the forum and welcoming me here in february 2014! Thanks to all the people coming and going, beeing active for 5 minutes or still here since years! And of course to all my friends I made here, either alive or dead(Hopefully not), active or not, still friends or not, still interacting or not, thanks. I had great times, like meeting my best friend @BastementSparkle and bad times like my ex-permanent ban on the CTAM Forum game. but all in all the great parts overcome the bad by at least 20% (Pun intended). Rainbow horse is best horse.

And especially thanks for the staff to not leave this forum for months to avoid spoilers by taking care of anycreature doing so, seriously, not everyone watches early releases

2 weeks and my existence makes no sense anymore, so help me keep pones alive so i don't vanish like Discord doing non-chaos things! Pwetty pwease?

I come here almost daily even if I don’t have much to say. I’ll maybe message or see what some of my friends are up to. This is like my internet home, and it’s pretty nice. I don’t have many friends irl, so certainly I don’t feel as lonely thanks to this place and I’ve made some great friendships here. Even if I don’t always participate in mlp stuff, I can chat about anything with anybody.

Despite that, there are plenty of things, both events and users, that I never got to see or experience due to me not coming here until much later, but I'd say that what I have seen has proven memorable. I've been and am a part of quite a few fandoms, but out of all of them this is the only forum that I take part in.  I attempted with many type, but nothing compares to how friendly and welcoming the MLPF is.  I've met a lot of great ponies on here from all over the world, who will be listed below.  Many have gone inactive and moved on to hopefully great things, but I still like to mention them, hoping that doing so makes their day a little better no matter where they are.

Wow... time passes by really fast. I remember creating my account here for the very first time in 2013. I was very shy and inactive at first, but then I started to be more active. Nowadays I barely have much time to post here, as I'm really busy with my 3D animation degree  (hopefully ending this year), yet I still check this forum sometimes .

I would like to mention @Bojo @Nightmare Recherche @Gabosor @Hierok @CosmicSpark Thanks for all of you and for MLPForums for having a lot of good time here  I hope to continue the adventure in G5

He’s actually still alive, he came back and now has the name @PinkieShadow. He left again though and said he’s moving to twitter, but he seemed to have deleted his account...

Actually, looks like he's still on Youtube under the name "Princess Twibug"!

I came to this forum five years ago, spurred on only by some fascination with a couple of MLP music vids I randomly stumbled over, and a close read of Bride of Discord, nervous as all hay on whatever or not this community were good.

I can honestly say that I have never been part of a better community, and these past five years have been great. Went from nervously trying a few posts to having a thread with many wonderful people to write with, and though many have gone their separate ways since, and new folks have come in, I remember all of them fondly, and sometimes look back on the old tales with a smile on my face.

Really been the greatest time, and though the show's about to end (hopefully on a high) I am looking forward for all of us to keep the world alive in this sprawling forum, and show a whole bunch of new folks throughout the years that this really is one of the best, most welcoming fandoms they're likely to encounter.
